Bullies have characteristics that give them away. And if you watch closely, you can pick them out of a crowd before even talking to them.

In this post, you’ll learn the 40 characteristics of bullies so that you can spot them before they spot you.

Once you learn all these traits, you will be able to cluster them more efficiently and protect yourself before they have a chance to bully you.

This post is all about the 40 characteristics of bullies so that you can spot them and protect yourself.

40 Characteristics of Bullies

Bullies have many traits if you know what to look for. And knowing what they are can give you an advantage.

You can cluster them together and tell whether you’re looking at a bully. More importantly, you can avoid bullies before they get the chance to target you.

Here are all the traits.

1. They crave power.

Bullies need to dominate others. Therefore, they may boss people around. They may also try subtle insults to see how you react. Don’t ignore these things because they’re huge red flags.

2. Searching for Flaws.

Bullies may not have anything on you. However, they will hunt for anything, no matter how tiny the flaw. Then, when they find it, they will make a big deal of it.

Understand that bullies are always on the prowl for victims. To select targets, they need vulnerabilities they can exploit. And if they can’t find anything, they’ll invent something. So, expect them to go over you with a fine-toothed comb.

If you pay attention, you’ll notice them watching you closely but from afar. You’ll also notice the unfriendly expressions on their faces. They might even look at each other and point in your direction.

Therefore, be alert.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

3. Exploiting Vulnerabilities.

They will scan every word that comes out of your mouth for the slightest hint of sarcasm. Moreover, they may even watch for stupidity or slowness.

Understand that they’re looking for anything they can take offense to. They also search for things to pick apart and twist and use against you.

Bullies will look you up and down. They search your face for the slightest blemish.

They also scan your attire for the slightest stain or tear. They’ll also see if you’re wearing old hand-me-downs or the latest fashions.

Your mood, your moves, your voice, everything about you will be under scrutiny. And they wait with bated breath for anything they can use against you. Bullies may also have an ear cocked for any damaging information about you.

But, look at it this way:

If bullies have to search for imperfections, you’re not the issue. They are.

4. Barking orders.

When bullies order you around, they deny your equality and autonomy. Instead of respectfully asking for what they want, they make demands as if you’re their subordinate.

Proverbially, this is how bullies claim ownership of you. They don’t have to be bosses or authority figures to order you around.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

Here are some examples of orders and what you can say to counter them:

Bully: “Get (your ass) in here!”

You: “Screw you!”

Bully: “Come back here now!”

You: “Forget you!”

Bully: “Pick that up!”

You: “Up yours!”

Understand that no one has the right to give you orders other than your boss, teachers, or parents. And if a classmate or coworker steps over that line, it’s as simple as saying, “I don’t take orders.”

5. Bring up your past.

Have you ever noticed that bullies always seem to bring up your past? A past mistake? Maybe they mention a police record of vandalism when you were seventeen.

During college, you may have gotten shit-face drunk at a frat party. And you performed a table dance while stripping down to your underwear.

Whatever the faux pas might have been, bullies love throwing it in your face.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

6. Putting you down to feel better about themselves.

Instead of putting in the work to improve, they tear you down to look bigger and better. Bullies never build up; they tear down. They do not create or restore; they destroy. And they don’t add to anything, only subtract from it.

Understand that bullies are losers, and they cannot survive in a meritocracy. They have no redeeming qualities. So, they use the only power they have left.

Their last resort is to make a last-ditch effort to preserve their fragile egos.

They select a target and say something mean and hurtful. If that person is you, you’re naturally shocked at first, and you feel off balance.

Next, the shock wears off, and you begin feeling the pain in your heart.

It’ll be hard at first. But make a conscious effort not to value a bully’s opinions. Understand that you have no control over other people’s actions, behaviors, or opinions.

If they have a problem with you, it’s their problem, not yours.

7. Acting Superior and entitled.

Bullies will act superior and entitled. And they signal superiority by looking down on you. However, they do this to bring you down and make themselves feel more powerful. And a sense of entitlement comes with it.

Many of them act this way to conceal their own jealousy and insecurity. And sadly, it works because too many bullying victims give too much value to bullies’ opinions.

You owe it to yourself to learn and see what’s behind the mask of superiority. Open your eyes and see through the facades they put up.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

8. Gaslighting.

Bullies are notorious for gaslighting. So, what do bullies do when they gaslight you? And what is the definition of gaslight?

Gaslight: to psychologically manipulate someone into doubting their own perception of reality.

Put simply, when you call out their abuse, bullies will take offense to your response to their behavior. And they will make the following statements:

  • “That didn’t happen.”
  • “You brought it all on yourself.”
  • “You’re too sensitive.”

Don’t believe it! See this for what it is. Your bullies know they’re busted. So, they’re trying to turn it back on you and make you look unstable.

9. Refusing to acknowledge your boundaries.

Bullies will violate your boundaries. They won’t take no for an answer. When you tell them to stop, they just keep going. Moreover, they invade your personal space.

This is a classic sign of bullies. Therefore, when you see them do it to someone else, they’ll do the same to you sooner or later.

10. Leaving you emotionally exhausted after You encounter them.

Bullies are negative people. They seem to take the oxygen out of every room they walk into. And they zap your energy because they like to ride roughshod over someone.

Therefore, when you see them doing this to someone, keep your eyes peeled. And avoid them like the plague.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

11. Laying Guilt TRiPS.

Bullies will pile on the guilt trips when you don’t give them what they want. And if you “dare” to stand up to them, they’ll become offended and angry. Then, they will try to make you believe you are the bad guy.

They may accuse you of being selfish, stingy, and so on. Whatever they lay on you, they make you feel rotten.

Bullies may also try to make you feel obligated. They may refer to something they did for you and imply that you owe them.

For example, a partner asks a girl for sex. She tells them she’s not ready to take that step yet. And the partner says, “I just took you out to a five-course dinner and treated you to a great movie…” Blah-b-blah.

They’re trying to get you to do something you don’t want to do by making you feel like a heel. Don’t fall for it.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

12. They Never apologize for their abuse.

This is another classic trait of bullies. When you call them out on their behavior, they don’t apologize. Instead, they only double down.

Therefore, when you see them do this to someone else, you probably have a bully in your midst.

13. They get offended easily.

Bullies get overly defensive. In fact, they don’t mind dishing it out. But when you bite back, they get butt-hurt. In fact, they can be the biggest crybabies in the world.

The house cats always want a piece of the barn cat… until they get a piece of the barn cat.

So, don’t let their “offense” shake you.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

14. Rattling You.

Before getting violent, bullies will often try to rattle you. It’s how they mess with your mind. For example, if you’re a kid being bullied at school, here’s what your bullies might do.

  • Deliberately knock over your drink and spill it
  • Pluck a piece of food from your plate and pop it into their mouth at lunch.
  • Kick your books, backpack, or purse with their foot
  • Fling your hair back
  • Flick your nose with one finger
  • Give you a non-friendly slap on the back
  • Shoulder-check you as they walk past you in the hall or parking lot
  • Knock your hat or cap off.

Workplace bullies may also knock your files off your desk. This doesn’t happen often, but it isn’t unheard of.

Understand that bullies use these tactics to provoke a reaction. They may even be looking for a fight. Why else would they invade your space or territory?

15. They Get Jealous easily.

Bullies are highly competitive. They like to be on top and stay there. Therefore, they despise competition.

Bullies can’t handle being outdone by anyone. But that doubles if it’s someone they deem inferior.

For example, you’re a target of bullying, and you make all A’s. Maybe you win an award. Your bullies will become angry and bully you worse.

They might make the following statements:

  • “You think you’re so smart!”
  • “You think you’re better than us!”

Make no mistake. Those kinds of accusations scream jealousy.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

16. They give backhanded compliments.

In other words, they hide their insults under the veil of praise. Let’s say you make a big accomplishment.

Bullies might say, “You did better than I expected,” or “I never thought you’d be smart enough to pull that off.”

17. Delivering digs and zingers.

In other words, they make subtle wisecracks and insults. This kind of bullying is one of the most cowardly forms. Why? Because it’s passive-aggressive.

When these types of bullies insult you, they’re slick about it. These types of bullies don’t have the guts to make a direct attack. So, they say stuff to catch you off guard.

They taunt you in such a way that you may have difficulty figuring out who it’s aimed at. In fact, you won’t even know it’s directed at you until it’s too late for you to deliver a good comeback.

Why? Because the bully may not necessarily address it to you. Instead, they’ll tell it to everyone else around you… right in front of you. However, they’ll do it in a way that leaves you in doubt. You will question yourself.

But the bystanders nearby will immediately know who the covert nastiness is meant for. Passive-aggressive attacks include sarcasm, zingers, digs, and sneak dissing.

18. Sneak Dissing.

This is the new name for digs and zingers. Again, it’s the kind of attack where the bully talks about you without naming you.

And they usually do it where you can hear. But, at the same time, they hope it flies right over your head or that you won’t have the guts to clap back. The reason bullies do this is to avoid a direct conflict with you.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

19. Intimidation tactics.

Bullying feeds on fear. Therefore, bullies will try to scare you into submission. For instance, they may get in your face like they’re going to attack you. Or they may tell you they’re going to kick your butt if you don’t do xyz.

They may tower over you from behind. But whatever they do, they use scare tactics to get you to exert control over you. And they usually do it through their body language.

20. Innuendos.

Innuendo is an insinuation that people use to threaten or insult you and still have plausible deniability. Most bullies like to use the indirect approach just in case you have the balls to confront them.

Then they can claim that “it was just a joke” or that they “didn’t mean it that way. Examples of innuendo include backhanded compliments. For example, “Wow! You actually finished that in time!”

They also question your competence (“Do you need help with that? It seems you’re having difficulty.”)

21. Ambiguous statements.

For example, bullies may exclude you from something. But when you ask about it, they may claim, “I thought you knew about it. I told everyone else.”

Or, if everyone is talking about you behind your back, one of them may come to you and say, “I just want to let you know that what everyone is saying, I think it’s unfair.”

But understand that by saying this, the bully is spreading gossip but pretending to be a friend.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

22. Shifting Blame.

Bullies will abuse you, then blame you for their behavior if you speak up. For instance, they may tell you, “You brought it on yourself.”

Or, they might tell you, “If you hadn’t said so-and-so, he wouldn’t have slapped you.” Whatever the situation, they’re trying to justify the behavior by making it look like you provoked it.

“Nobody bullied you; they were just reacting to something you did.”

23. Talking behind your back.

Bullies are cowards. And many only pretend to be your friends. Most of them won’t tell you to your face what they think of you. They’ll smile and give you a pat on the back.

However, once you walk away, they’ll begin talking badly about you behind your back.

24. Death Glares.

These bullies let their eyes do the talking for them. They’ll stand across the room from you and give you dirty looks. But this is a cowardly way of getting their point across.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

25. stalking you.

Many bullies will follow you around or drive by your house. They might even “accidentally” run into you at the supermarket. They don’t get close enough to be obvious.

However, they’re just close enough to observe you and the people you associate with. Bullies stalk you to gather information they can use against you later.

26. Watching you Closely.

Some bullies don’t stalk. They just watch you like a hawk. They do this for the same reasons mentioned in number twenty-five. To gather information they can weaponize later.

27. Invading your privacy.

Privacy is a shield. It is also a form of power. By having a life your bullies don’t know about, you have a fortress they can’t penetrate.

Therefore, they invade your privacy in an attempt to tear down that wall of protection. For example, they may plunder through your belongings. Or they may peek in your bathroom window and watch you bathe.

However they do it, they don’t do it out of concern. It’s to gather information they can use to embarrass you.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

28. Daring You.

For example, a bully may stand with feet apart and arms wide, forming a T-stance. By doing this, the bully is telling you to “Bring it” or “Come on, I dare you.”

29. Deliberate sudden movements.

For instance, the bully may back away from you and act like he is going to punch you, then stop himself and laugh.

They may also lunge at you, then stop themselves. These tactics are the favorite of bullies. Understand that bullies make these deliberate moves to cause you to flinch.

They then stand back and laugh. Then, they claim that this normal reaction is proof that you’re scared of them and don’t have the guts to fight them back.

30. Mock physical attacks.

For example, bullies may begin dancing around the room and shadowboxing. By doing this, the bully is clearly showing what he wants to do to you.

Understand that when bullies toy with you, they really want to square off. See it for what it is and call it out as it is.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

31. Gotcha Questions.

Not only are politicians notorious for asking gotcha questions, but so are bullies. What is a gotcha question, you may ask?

Gotcha questions are those that put you in a bad light, no matter how you respond. They can do damage even if you don’t respond to them at all.

Therefore, these are the types of questions bullies will ask you in public, just to humiliate you. In fact, these kinds of questions are best asked in front of an audience.

Gotcha questions are forms of entrapment. Why? Because bullies use them to trap you into looking bad to others.

Here are a few examples of gotcha questions:

  • “Tabitha, did you ever get help for your alcoholism?”

By asking this, the bully is accusing Tabitha of having alcoholism without directly doing so. It’s a slick way for them to attack her.

A yes means that Tabitha was “a drunk” in the past. A no implies that Tabitha is still drinking. And that’s what people will think.

Furthermore, if she responds by saying, “I’ve never had a drinking problem,” it would sound like a cover-up. Why? Because others would wonder why anyone would ask such a question if they weren’t privy to such private information.

It implies that the one asking knows information that hasn’t been available to anyone else.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

32. Selective outrage.

Selective outrage is a form of psychological and behavioral control. It is biased anger. Also, it is hypocrisy. Why? Because it holds a select few to a double standard.

In other words, those in power use it to praise one person or group and punish another for the same behavior. The behavior doesn’t matter; it’s who’s doing it.

33. Impulsive behavior.

Bullies tend to act without thinking. Why? Because they’re easily triggered. In this case, the aggression isn’t planned. They overreact to perceived slights.

And, when they do, they show a complete lack of emotional control.

For example, bullies may explode in angry outbursts. Or they may physically attack someone without considering the consequences.

34. Low tolerance of frustration.

Bullies don’t handle disappointments well. When they get frustrated, they tend to take it out on you. They blame you for any inconvenience they face. And it was probably something you had no control over.

And they will often attack you for it. They react with disproportionate anger because they view minor obstacles as personal attacks.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

35. Ignores Rules.

Bullies think they’re superior. Therefore, they believe that rules don’t apply to them. “Rules for thee but not for me.”

36. STIRRING conflict instead of resolving it.

Bullies don’t solve problems; they create them. Many of them use drama to control social orders. And they do it even if they have to manufacture the issues.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

37. Uses charm to deceive others.

Bullies use deceptive charm to impress teachers and supervisors. They’re convincing liars. Moreover, they’re experts at kissing ass. And, if you report bullying, this is often why authority figures side with them and blame you.

Moreover, because the bullies have curried favor with bosses or teachers, they may cover up their behavior.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

38. They take up space.

You will often spot bullies standing in the center of a room. They’ll be standing with their feet shoulder-width apart and arms akimbo. They do this to look bigger.

Bullies also like to sit on the stairs or walk in the middle of the hall. These are power plays to subtly force people to move around them.

39. Rigid thinking.

They despise change. Moreover, they don’t like anything or anyone different.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

40. Sabotage.

Bullies are saboteurs. Ways they sabotage you include social tactics like character assassination and smear campaigns.

They also come between you and your plans for the future. For instance, they may try to discourage you from pursuing your dreams by ridiculing you. If you’re studying to become a doctor, they may laugh and tell you that you aren’t smart enough.

Bullies will also sabotage you at work by derailing a project or taking credit for your ideas.

BONUS:

41. Overly-Aggressive.

Aggression comes in many forms. Some bullies use physical aggression to get what they want. Others use psychological aggression.

But whatever kind they use, they go overboard to intimidate you into submitting to their every whim.

40 Characteristics of Bullies:

In conclusion

You can spot them by their attitudes and their behavior. Their body language conveys dominance.

The tactics bullies use are dead giveaways. And if you see them act this way toward anyone else, they may do it to you sooner or later.

Bullies often have large clusters of these behaviors and tactics. Therefore, spotting them is easier than you think. You just have to pay attention.

Bullied Girls and Dating: 12 Need-to-Know Facts

Let’s address the subject of bullied girls and dating because there’s not enough information about it. If you’re a bullied female and wondering how to find a date or navigate an existing relationship, this post is for you.

bullied girls and dating

It’s not uncommon for female victims of bullying to have difficulty in the dating world. In this post, you will learn about bullying and dating to understand how it can affect your dating life.

Once you learn all these crucial details, you will recognize if you’re about to fall into unhealthy patterns. You will also be compelled to take control of your dating life.

This post is all about bullied girls and dating to give you the information you need to hold on to your self-respect and take your power back.

Bullied Girls and Dating

Bullied girls may sometimes turn to males to obtain the acceptance they aren’t getting from their peers. Some even go on “sexcapades” to feel desirable.

I say this because during school, I leaned on romance and sex for comfort. Having a boyfriend is such a welcome change when you’re a bullied young girl. It’s like a soft pillow to land on when you fall.

Dating and sex can be used to rebut the messages bullies send you. They’re confirmation that you’re worthy of love. Moreover, this approach to dating is unhealthy.

And you look to your guy to rescue you. You see him as your refuge from a cold, cruel world that hates you. However, this is unhealthy.

Females gravitate toward relationships.

Women and girls have an innate desire to nurture. In other words, they maintain relationships, whether familial, romantic, or friendships.

Family is still important. But teenage girls place more value on friendships with other girls and romantic relationships with boys. And if her peers won’t accept her, she will get acceptance elsewhere.

Therefore, she turns to males outside her school for the validation she craves. Dating outside of the bullying environment is a good way to skirt around your ruined reputation and still get opportunities to date.

Being bullied can negatively impact a girl’s dating life. Why? Three reasons.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

1. Bullies will Poison the well.

Bullies, especially female bullies, will deliberately try to poison the well. In other words, they will deliberately try to lower your dating prospects. And they will use gossip and smear campaigns to make you unattractive to potential partners.

These vicious bullies may call you names that attack the feminine virtues. They may call you a “whore” or a “slut.” And what person wants to date one of those types?

You may not be what they call you. However, when you’re being bullied, it isn’t about who you are. It’s about who everyone thinks you are. Reputation spreads faster than truth.

Bullying diminishes dating opportunities. When bullies destroy your reputation through malicious gossip, potential partners may pass you over.

Therefore, you will likely miss out on dating and romance. Or you might meet and date partners outside of the bullying environment. This is okay.

2. You may have Trust Issues.

It causes low self-esteem and trust issues. You may feel unworthy of a partner. Moreover, you may have a hard time trusting people enough to date them.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

3. Male Dependency

When you’re bullied, you may turn to romantic relationships to compensate for your lack of friends.  And it’s because you only want to feel wanted.

You may think that having a partner is the only way you can have a sense of worth. Therefore, you may be desperate for a boyfriend.

And you may date any guy who will have you. When you aren’t selective about the people you date, you risk choosing unhealthy partners.

And you have a higher chance of ending up in an abusive relationship. Moreover, you might stay in it to keep from being alone.

So, how do you keep your self-respect and stay away from unhealthy relationships when you’re being bullied? You keep your standards high.

Let’s explain further.

Desperation.

Because your bullies have convinced you that you have little or no options, you might drop your standards. In other words, you’ll date anyone who shows their teeth to you without observing their behavior first.

You want a partner so bad that you ignore any red flags. As a result, you set yourself up for abuse. Why? Because all you’re looking for is a warm body to validate you. Nothing more.

It’s also the reason you rush into having sex. This isn’t good!

When you see a romantic relationship as a band-aid to feelings of loneliness, you’re wandering into dangerous territory.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

How do you keep bullies from negatively affecting dating and romance?

There are ways you can spare yourself.

1. Let love come from within.

You must love yourself, or nobody will love you. Never look outside of yourself for love and validation. Too many girls and women look to outside sources for love, and this is dangerous.

Why? Because it causes you to cling to partners who don’t care about you. Moreover, you hold on too tightly. Even worse, you chase people who aren’t worth your time.

As a result, you make yourself look desperate.

But when you allow love to come from within, you’re willing to walk away from selfish or abusive partners. Also, you’re willing to stay alone until someone better comes along.

A partner is not the end-all, be-all. Never depend on others for love. Instead, let love come from within your heart!

2. Be Selective of those you date.

This isn’t exclusion; it’s safety. Be choosy about the guys you date. Don’t date just anyone. Observe their behavior. Notice how they carry themselves.

If you see them mistreat other girls, they will do the same to you eventually. And if they treat their mother like crap, definitely cross them off your list of possibilities.

If their behavior doesn’t match their words, don’t even consider them.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

3. No booty calls, Ever!

For Pete’s sake, don’t hook up! Too many guys will use you, then throw you away. Too many bullied girls rush into sex because bullies have made them feel unlovable, or, in a bully’s words, “unf*ckable.”

Therefore, they resort to giving it up to their partners way too early just to prove that they are. If nothing else, know this right now! You don’t have to have sex to prove that you can. You are not a one-night stand.

Respect yourself. Make your partner wait. Because you’re worth the wait. Make sure he’s earned it. Make sure he puts a ring on your finger first.

There’s a reason why it’s best to make your partner wait a while before having sex with him.

You don’t only show that you have respect for yourself and your body. But you also weed out the creeps who are only looking to score.

If a guy is only interested in sex, he will not want to wait for it. Keep him waiting for any length of time, and he’ll only break it off and move on to an easier girl.

Trust me, this is what you should want. Why? Because if he only wants your body, he doesn’t value you like you deserve to be valued.

A person like that doesn’t deserve to be with you.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

Signs Your Date Only Wants One Thing

So, how do you know if he wants a relationship or if he’s only out to get in your pants? Here are the red flags you should watch for.

  • All he talks about is sex.
  • He begs to sleep with you.
  • He lays guilt trips if you don’t sleep with him.
  • You overhear him bragging about the number of females he’s slept with.
  • He puts his ex down.
  • He undresses you with his eyes.
  • You find out he’s addicted to porn.

Signs he’s abusive towards women and girls.

  • He disrespects his mother.
  • His attitude is that females are only here for his convenience.
  • He has a chauvinist attitude.

I can’t stress this enough. How he treats his mother is a huge tell. If he mistreats her, he will do it to you, too. Just give him time.

Bullied Girls and Dating:

In conclusion.

Most bullied girls suffer from low self-esteem. As a result, they may have difficulty dating and making friends. Because of low self-worth, they may go out with just anyone and cling to partners who abuse them.

Real men don’t want an easy woman. They want a high-value woman- a woman who has morals and who respects herself enough to wait it out.

They want a woman who is true to herself and who has standards. Most importantly, they want a woman who knows who she is and what she wants, and isn’t afraid to go after it.

And you’re worth so much more than just a one-night romp between the sheets. You’re worth a lifetime commitment from the right guy at the right time. Always remember that.

This post was all about bullied girls and dating so that you can prevent bullies from having any say over your dating and enjoy a healthy relationship with the right person.

When you respect yourself as a woman, you’re more likely to get respect from others. Moreover, you’ll get more of the things you want because you won’t settle for crap you don’t want. In short, life itself is much better for you.

Therefore, in this post, you will learn how to respect yourself as a woman so that you’ll ward off bullies and others who may treat you less than the way you deserve.

Once you learn all about these life-changing tips, you will be compelled to practice them so that you can begin giving yourself the respect you deserve.

This post is all about how to respect yourself as a woman so that you treat yourself well and refuse to settle for bullying, abuse, and other crap life hands you at times.

How to Respect Yourself as a Woman

When you are bullied, you will be tempted to let yourself down just to make the bullying stop. You’ll want to try different personalities to see which one gets you accepted.

And you’ll try to become someone else so that your crush will notice you.

However, this isn’t the way. It’s better to be yourself no matter what. It’s how you keep your self-respect. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way.

You won’t wish you’d been more popular, you’ll wish you’d loved and respected yourself more.

There were times I didn’t respect myself as I should have.

  • I wish I had put myself first.
  • I wish I’d said “NO” a lot more than I did.
  • Also, I wish I had been true to my own heart.
  • And I wish I had known my worth and realized my full potential.

I wish I’d been better at being myself. But we all wish we’d done these things when we get older, don’t we? That we’d done something a little different- a bit better?

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to love myself and grown a thick skin. Also, I’ve learned to handle confrontation with composure.

As we get older, we shed that shell we curled up and hid in when we were younger. We grow to accept ourselves as we are. Moreover, we become comfortable in our own skin.

And let me tell you! It’s immense freedom that you can’t describe!

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

1. Never change yourself to avoid being bullied.

I’ve learned that people bully you not because there’s something you need to change. Bullies bully because they have issues.

It could be because they have a bad case of narcissism. Maybe they have low self-esteem. Some people bully others because they have problems at home.

Maybe your bullies are jealous of something you have that they don’t. Or maybe they have something to prove.

Bullies, at their core, are cowards and attention-seekers. That knowledge alone is freeing! Just knowing why unsavory people do harm only serves as a huge buffer to your self-esteem.

2. Practice Self-Acceptance.

When you find self-acceptance, bullies will disappear from your life. Today, I no longer get bullied.  However, if anyone tries, I swiftly put the person in their place. Or laugh and blow the idiot off.

Instead of getting hurt or angry, I get amused. Then, I have fun with them.

Unfortunately, that takes time, learning, and most of all experience. I feel regret when I think of all the years I spent feeling insecure and sorry for myself.

What a total waste of time and energy!

You mustn’t take anything your bullies say as the truth. Realize that their actions or words have nothing to do with you and everything to do with them! Hey! I know it hurts.

I know it’s hard not to blame yourself when everyone is bombarding you with negativity. It’s easy to think that something’s wrong with you when you catch hell from every direction.

However, I want you to love yourself and see the bullies for who they truly are. They’re pathetic souls who are desperately trying to look cool.

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

3. Know your value, and the right people will find you.

You must value yourself no matter how others treat you. Rest assured that you will eventually find people who are right for you. And when you do, they will love you for being your awesome self!

Believe it! There will come a day when you will be appreciated for all that you are!

It happened to me.  And if you don’t give up, it will happen to you too! You are worth fighting for! You are worth living for!

4. Be Willing to Walk Away FROM TOXIC PEOPLE, no matter how much you love them.

You must love yourself, even if you have to look at yourself in the mirror every day and make positive affirmations.

  • “I AM a good person.”
  • “I AM worthy of being loved.”

Maintain your self-esteem. And never let anyone brainwash you into thinking that you are less than.

You must love and respect yourself before anyone else can. Take care of yourself. Command the love and respect you deserve.   And be willing to make some very difficult decisions to earn it.

Sometimes, you have to walk away from toxic family members, knowing they may never see your worth. And this means coming to a place where you don’t care, not even the slightest, about the outcome.

However, there is a strong chance that your value will go up in that person’s eyes. They may eventually see your worth and treat you better than you ever thought possible.

It may not happen overnight. In fact, it may take several years. But it can happen.

If, by chance, it does not happen, realize that you didn’t turn your back because you didn’t love them. You did so because they did not love you enough to treat you with the love and respect you deserve.

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

5. Let love come from within.

You must love yourself, or nobody will love you. Never look outside of yourself for love and validation.

Never depend on others for love. Especially a partner. Instead, let love come from within your heart! Be choosy about the guys you date. Don’t date just anyone. And, for Pete’s sake, don’t hook up!

Dating and Romance

When a girl is bullied, she may turn to romantic relationships to compensate for the lack of friendship she’s experiencing.  And it’s because she only wants to feel wanted.

Bullying diminishes dating opportunities. When bullies destroy your reputation through malicious gossip, potential partners may pass you over.

Therefore, you will likely miss out on dating and romance. Or you might meet and date partners outside of the bullying environment. This is okay.

But when you see having a romantic relationship as a band-aid to feelings of loneliness, it’s not healthy. Also, you don’t want to date just to compensate for not having any friends.

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

6. Be selective of your dating partners.

Because bullies have convinced them that they have no options, a bullied woman will often drop her standards. She’ll date anyone who shows their teeth without first observing their behavior.

Therefore, you must watch the way potential suitors carry themselves. Why? Because when all you’re looking for is a warm body to validate you, you ignore any red flags.

This is how many women end up in toxic relationships. It’s also the reason they rush into having sex and end up getting taken advantage of.

7. Make your partner wait a while before sex.

Understand that there are good reasons to make your partner wait before having sex.

When you do, you show that you have respect for yourself and your body. Moreover, you weed out the creeps who are only looking for one thing.

If a guy is only interested in sex, he will not want to wait for it. When you make him wait, he’ll only break it off and move on to an easier girl.

Trust me, this is what you should want. Why? Because if he only wants your body, he isn’t interested in a long-term relationship.

And he doesn’t value you like you deserve to be valued. Therefore, he doesn’t deserve to be with you in the first place.

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

Signs Your Date Only Wants One Thing

So, how do you know if he wants a relationship or if he’s only out to get in your pants? Here are the signs:

He always hounds you for sex.

If your date starts harping on you to give him sex, you might want to reconsider going out with him again. A partner who doesn’t admire you for not being so dang easy isn’t the person you should be with.

Everything he talks about pertains to sex.

This is a huge giveaway. If all your date can talk about is sex, either show him the door or head for it. Whatever you do, get rid of this creep because it’s a sign that it’s all he’s after.

He brags or hints about having sex with X number of girls before you.

Yuck! Who wants to hear that? He’s only telling you up front that he’s a player looking to score.

Do you really want to be the next notch on his bedpost? No way! Give yourself the respect you deserve. Get away from this dude…fast!

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

He puts down His Ex.

This idiot will make statements such as, “She was a lousy lay,” or other remarks that put her down. Ewww! For your own sake, drop this loser.

If he’ll degrade the last woman, he’ll do the same to you. Also, he can’t have much respect for you if he makes such statements around you.

Women who respect themselves do not want to hear such rubbish!

He undresses you with his eyes.

You know that look. You’re both talking and having fun, and his eyes drop from your eyes to your breasts and seem to settle there.

Again, that’s your cue to make a quick exit!

You find out he’s addicted to porn.

The last thing you need is to date someone with a sex addiction. It’s time to head for Splitsville!

8. Don’t put up with fake friends.

If you have girlfriends who treat you like garbage, now’s the time to get rid of them. You’d rather be friendless than tolerate jealous bitches who talk behind your back and bring you down.

When you respect yourself, you expect your friends to respect you too.

How to Respect Yourself As A Woman:

In Conclusion

You don’t have to tolerate fake girlfriends who don’t treat you like you deserve to be treated. You also deserve a partner who respects you.

Know that you are so much more than just your body. You deserve a partner who cherishes you for more than that. Because you have so much more to offer.

Real men don’t want a woman who is easy. They want a high-value woman- a woman who has morals and respects herself.

They want a woman who is true to herself and who has standards. Most importantly, they want a woman who knows who she is, what she wants, and what she’s worth.

And the best part is, you won’t attract as many bullies once you start showing self-respect. Therefore, always respect yourself as a woman.

This post is about how to respect yourself as a woman so that you can stop attracting those who are toxic and draw higher quality people into your life.

Invasion of Privacy: Another Tool of Bullies

If you are bullied, have your bullies ever used the invasion of privacy to find intimate details about your life? Here, we’ll discuss why bullies like to snoop into your private life and what you can do about it.

invasion of privacy

Photos from Canva

Invasion of privacy is often another tool sick and twisted bullies use to control your life. Therefore, in this post, you will learn about the invasion of privacy, why bullies use it, and how to protect yourself.

Once you learn all about these need-to-know details, you will be better able to protect yourself from these snoops.

This post is all about invasion of privacy, so you can take steps to keep certain aspects of your life out of prying eyes.

Invasion of Privacy

Bullies are notorious for trying to make your personal life their business. They seem to feel entitled to every part of you. And when you refuse to reveal certain parts of your life, they see it as an act of defiance.

For instance, if you’re bullied at school but manage to find a private world outside the school walls that makes you happy, they want to know about it.

Maybe you’re dating someone who goes to another school. Or, it could be that your family life is close to perfect. Whatever it is, your bullies seem intent on injecting themselves into it.

But understand that it isn’t because they’re curious. It’s because they want to monopolize your joy.

Here’s why bullies try to make your life outside of work or school their business.

1. To strip away the privacy boundary

Privacy is a shield. It is also a form of power. By having a life your bullies don’t know about, you have a fortress they can’t penetrate.

Here’s what bullies will do to tear down that fortress.

For instance, you’re a girl having a romantic relationship, and your bullies find out about it. So, they automatically assume that you’re having sex with your partner.

And you may or may not be. But that’s not the point. The point is that they’re poking their noses where they don’t belong. Moreover, they’re trying to take away your privacy by dragging your love life (or sex life) out into the streets.

The reason bullies do this is to make sure there’s nowhere you feel safe. Therefore, they’re trying to prove that no matter where you go or who you’re with, they own you.

Invasion of Privacy:

Slut-Shaming

Your bullies, males and females, may call you names like “whore” or “slut.” But understand the real reasons behind it.

When someone uses your sex life against you, it isn’t about morals. It’s about social control. They feel like, socially, you skipped a grade.

Therefore, they’re charging you with the crime, “Theft of Social Status.” So, what they’re doing is attempting to re-establish dominance. In that, they’re trying to re-establish the pecking order.

Because they can’t touch your personal life, they use shame to tear you back down. In other words, “you don’t know your place.” So, they’ve got to put you back in it.

They become angry because they can no longer one-up you.

It’s reported that bullies usually get more sex than victims. And, it’s true. However, if it’s you who’s having sex, bullies become outraged—especially those who don’t have a partner.

You see? Much of bullying stems from competition for mates. And it’s the same in the animal kingdom. In high school, sex is the mark of social status. Why do you think that teenagers make fun of anyone who’s still a virgin?

Therefore, in their minds, you’re getting the upper hand. Instead of them having sex, it’s you.  When they slut-shame you, they’re basically saying, “You’re not any better than us, you’re just a trifling whore!”

You may not even be having relations with your date. You may only be going out. However, teenagers have raging hormones, and most of them will sleep with someone at the drop of a hat.

Therefore, when it gets out that you’re dating, they will think that you’re having sex, too.

Invasion of Privacy:

2. To be the social police force

Ever wonder why bullies won’t stop digging into your business? There are reasons behind it, trust me.

If they can gather enough details, they can find ways to ruin your relationship. Your bullies are searching for leverage. Moreover, they want to find ways to force your partner to see you the way they do.

And if you’re a kid in school, they want ways to get you in trouble with your parents or the school system. This is why it feels so invasive. It’s the evil intent behind it.

3. For public entertainment

Bullies love to find details about your personal life, then make a joke out of it. For example, your bullies may peep into your bedroom window and take pictures of you undressing. Or, they might film you taking a shower.

And by the next day, your classmates or coworkers have a film of you naked on their phones. This never happened to me, thank goodness. I went to school long before the internet. However, it has happened to a lot of bullied girls.

And I knew a girl who was spied on, one night, by three guys from school. They peeked through her bedroom window without her knowing it. They also took pictures of her undressing with a Polaroid camera.

Many schoolmates saw the pictures, and it was a long time before she lived it down.

The goals of invading your privacy are rarely good. Bullies often do it to embarrass and humiliate you. Invasion of privacy seeks to violate the most basic boundaries of human dignity.

Bullies have ways of turning your most intimate moments into free entertainment.

Invasion of Privacy:

4. They fear losing control.

Any time bullies realize that they’re losing their grip on you, they will intensify the abuse. The bullying will reach such a fever pitch that you’ll think your whole world is being turned upside down.

It will seem as if everyone is losing their minds. This is because bullies have a sick obsession with you. Their entire ethos is to keep you down and out.

Therefore, they will try to burn down your safe house. Moreover, they will try to disrupt any peace you manage to scrounge for yourself. And they will spend more time talking about your life than living their own.

What I just described here is the surefire sign of a dying bully. A bully who has lost power over you is like a dying animal that kicks and screams to stay alive.

5. They’ve already lost control.

Once you take your power back, things usually get worse before they get better. This is because you tear up their little book of how life is supposed to be. Then you throw the pieces back at them.

You see? To bullies, you are a tool they use to feel superior. And when you find peace and happiness outside the bullying environment, you snatch that tool away from them.

Think about it. This is the same reason that totalitarian countries don’t allow their citizens to leave. By finding freedom in another country, such as America, they take away the power their old government held over them.

This is also why domestic abusers refuse to allow their partners to leave the relationship. It’s not about losing them. It’s the fear of losing control of their life. Domestic abusers can’t handle it when they can no longer call the shots.

Bullies react the same way when you find happiness outside their walls. They become obsessed. And they make desperate attempts to regain control over a victim they feel they “own.”

So they will use surveillance (an invasion of privacy) to regain that control. And they’ll watch you closely.

Invasion of Privacy:

How bullies keep tabs on you

Your bullies will stalk your social media pages. And they will keep track of the people closest to you. They’ll find out who you’re seen with, then turn every tiny detail into salacious gossip.

Also, they may dox you to find your address, your phone number, and who your family members are. In extreme cases, they will get access to your Social Security number and bank accounts.

When it comes to prying into your personal life, they leave no stone unturned. They will make sure that no part of your life is outside their authority.

6. to claim moral high ground

It’s no secret that bullies are the most self-righteous bunch alive. And it’s the reason we have so many special-interest groups today. In fact, we ought to call them “self-interest groups” because that’s what they are.

They turn their obsessiveness into a noble cause.

Bullies are no different. They dig up information about you, hoping to find some dirt. By putting your private life on display and putting you down, they get to be hailed as heroes. All the while, they’re only doing it to be cruel.

For example, let’s say that you’re a bullied girl who’s in a romantic relationship. And your partner goes to another school. This would give them the license to spread ugly rumors about your (supposed) sexual behavior.

And they do it strictly to make you less attractive to other potential partners. That way, if you left your current partner, you’d have no other options.

Invasion of Privacy:

Here are the steps you can take to guard your privacy.

1. Don’t tell anyone anything you don’t want them to know.

Sometimes, it’s easy to share too much without realizing it. Therefore, be selective with what you reveal. Bullies are just waiting for any information they can use against you.

2. Keep the curtains and blinds drawn over your bathroom and bedroom windows.

Peeping Toms are everywhere these days. Therefore, it’s always best to keep the blinds closed over your bathroom and bedroom windows.

3. Be selective with what you share online.

The internet is forever. Therefore, be choosy with what you type. And reread your post before you publish.

4. If you have gym class, be aware of your surroundings before you shower.

Bullies have recorded victims taking a shower after gym class. Therefore, check to see who’s around before you shower.

Invasion of Privacy:

5. If someone films you during your most private moments and shares it online, press charges.

Find out where the film originated, then take legal action against the person who filmed you without your knowledge.

Invasion of privacy is illegal, and you can press criminal charges. You can also file a civil suit.

In conclusion

Bullies are notoriously nosy. There are many reasons why bullies snoop into your private business. And those reasons are rarely good.

Never share anything about your life you wouldn’t want anyone to know. When bullies get access to your personal life, they can use it to do all sorts of damage.

Privacy is power. It is your strongest armor. Protect it!

zero-tolerance policies in school

Zero-Tolerance Policies: 7 Ways They Fail Victims of Bullying

Want to know the downside to zero-tolerance policies in schools? Here’s everything you need to know.

zero-tolerance policies

Photo from Dreamstime

All institutions have zero-tolerance policies. Workplaces and schools have had them for decades. But do they help victims or hurt them?

In this post, you will learn all about zero-tolerance policies and how they fail victims, so that you’ll know the truth about them.

Once you learn all about these harsh realities, you will be better able to plan your strategy if a bully comes for you.

This post is all about zero-tolerance policies, so that you’ll know both the pros and cons. Also, you’ll know not to rely too much on them when a bully attacks you.

Zero-Tolerance Policies

These policies may look good on paper. But, in practice, they’re damaging to victims of bullying. Here’s how.

1. They don’t consider The context.

For example, a girl comes up and pushes you on the playground. You push her back to make her stop. Under zero-tolerance policies, you are not allowed to shove the girl. It doesn’t matter if she pushed you first.

Therefore, you get in trouble just like she does. These kinds of policies don’t harm bullies. Why? Because most bullies don’t care whether they get into trouble.

However, they hurt victims because they’re often the good kids who normally follow the rules. All these children want is to learn in peace.

Zero-Tolerance Policies:

2. They Punish Victims of Bullying for Self-Defense.

Self-defense isn’t only necessary; it’s your right. However, zero-tolerance policies deny you that right.

Moreover, they discourage you from defending yourself because you know that you’ll get the blame for it. You may get suspended or expelled from school when you finally defend yourself from a bully. It happens all the time.

After months or years of being mercilessly bullied, you grow tired of all the BS.

You’ve tried handling it through nonviolent means. However, bullies only take you for being a wuss. As a result, they only beat you more.

Finally, you can’t take any more. So, you get fed up and beat the living crap out of them.

Now, everyone’s surprised and outraged! Not at the bully who attacked you, but at you! But where was their outrage when the shoe was on the other foot?

Where was their outrage when you were the one getting pounded? Where was their humanity when you cried out for help?

These are the exact questions you should ask when others get angry with you for defending yourself. You have just as much right to be safe as anyone else does.

And you have the right to defend yourself anytime some creep tries to kick your butt.

3. They Punish Victims of Bullying too harshly.

When classmates are bullying you, you don’t need to be punished. You need help. But instead of getting help from a caring teacher. They suspend you and send you home.

This means that you get zeros for every day you’re out of school. Your grades take a big hit. All because you get blamed for a situation you didn’t ask for.

ZERO-TOLERANCE Policies:

4. Bullied kids become too afraid to tell adults.

If you know that telling on your bully will only get you in trouble, you’ll stay silent. So, why report bullying if it isn’t going to do any good?

When you tell a teacher, you already put yourself at risk. Your bully may bully you worse for “snitching.” However, when you risk getting into trouble with the school, too, then why bother?

You’re better off keeping your mouth shut.

5. They don’t consider the root cause.

Zero-tolerance is just that, zero tolerance. It doesn’t care who started it. It has no concern with whether you’re just trying to protect yourself from getting hurt. No. The only thing that matters is that you hit the bully, too.

It takes two to tango, yes. But it only takes one to lead the dance.

6. They make bullies sneakier.

Under zero-tolerance policies, bullies learn quickly that they must bully covertly. Instead of physical attacks, bullies may use malicious gossip to get under your skin.

Or, they may deliberately provoke you to react so that you’ll be the one getting blamed. Most bullies are smart. They can figure out ways to use these strict rules against you.

They fool teachers and principals with their deceptive charm. And they tell lies so believable that it’s hard for the staff not to take them at face value.

And if the bully does well academically or is good at sports, all the worse! Therefore, it’s you who gets the shaft.

Zero-Tolerance Policies:

7. It breeds LAZIER staff.

With these kinds of rules, teachers and principals don’t have to try to find out who started the fight. They don’t have to consider whether you were defending yourself.

Therefore, they can throw the book at you without guilt.

How to Protect Yourself Against Bullies and Zero-Tolerance Policies

There are ways you can protect yourself from both bullying and zero-tolerance rules. Here’s a list of tactics below.

1. Put YOUR hand up and walk away.

If you see the bully coming and you know he’s going to punch you, put your hand up and walk away. It’s the best way to keep from being caught in that trap.

But what if the bully follows you? What if they chase you down? And what if they catch up with you and tackle you?

If this happens, all bets are off. Do what you have to do to defend yourself. If you have to hit, kick, and claw, do it! You tried to do the right thing. You tried to walk away, and the bully wouldn’t let you.

Therefore, screw their policies! Beat the living shit out of the bully. It’s the only way you’ll make them stop anyway. Fighting is a last resort, and this is it.

And, if you get into trouble, so be it. Your parents or guardians will back you up if they’re worth their salt.

Zero-Tolerance Policies:

2. Raise Your Voice and say, “Stop!” or “No!”

You can also say, “Don’t you do it!” or “Don’t you touch me!” But be sure to say it loud. Yell it if you have to.

The reason you want to do this is so that a teacher will hear you. Also, you want bystanders to hear you. If you alert them, they may be more inclined to help you when you need it.

3. immediately Walk toward a teacher or a friend.

When you do this, bullies will scram. Most bullies won’t do anything that might get them into trouble. Therefore, you protect yourself from an attack, even if only for that moment.

However, be aware. In these cases, bullies usually come back later. And they will usually catch you when you’re alone. So, continue to watch your back.

4. Make friends with other victims.

The last thing you need is to be isolated. Therefore, find others your bullies have attacked and make friends with them.

If your bullies have given them a hard time, they’ll likely back you up. Especially if you all form a group. Remember that bullies run in packs. And they like to catch you alone.

This is how they use their numbers to scare you. So, shouldn’t you do it too? Bullies are cowards. They won’t mess with you if you have a group of friends standing with you.

Zero-Tolerance Policies:

5. Use your friends as witnesses.

If your bullies attack you anyway, your friends will be great eyewitnesses. They can tell the principal what they saw so that you don’t take the blame.

This is another reason you should make friends with other victims.

6. document the bullying.

Keep a bullying journal and write down every incident in detail. You do this by using the 5W Rule. In other words, write down what happened. Also, jot down the bullies’ names and any nearby bystanders’ and teachers’ names.

Record the date and exact time of the bullying attack. Also include where it happened and why. Why? Because when you keep a journal, you soon record a pattern of bullying.

Moreover, teachers and school staff will likely believe you when you show them your journal. Even better, it’s admissible if you have to take it to court.

Zero-Tolerance Policies:

7. Tell a “Safe Adult” in private.

If you have a teacher you like and who likes you, get them in private. Then, tell them what’s going on before a fight happens.

And be sure to let them know that you’re trying to avoid fighting. Tell them that you’re trying to follow school rules, but you need help.

When you do it this way, the school will know you are trying to avoid a fight. And they’ll be more likely to help you. They’ll be less likely to punish you if the bully backs you into a corner.

Here’s a script you can use.

“Hi, (teacher’s name). Do you have a minute or two? Someone has been repeatedly bullying me, and it’s making it hard for me to focus on my schoolwork. I’m trying to be the bigger person and walk away, but they won’t let me. I’m afraid the bullying is only going to get worse. Can you help me figure out how to handle it so I don’t get in trouble?”

8. Save any online texts, messages, or posts.

If your bullies are bullying you online. Save everything they send you. Then show it to a school official.

In conclusion

Zero-tolerance policies hurt victims more than they help. Let’s do a recap of how.

  • They don’t consider the context.
  • They punish victims of bullying for self-defense.
  • Also, they punish victims too harshly.
  • Bullied kids become too afraid to tell adults.
  • They don’t consider the root cause.
  • They make bullies sneakier.
  • It breeds lazier staff.

Here’s how to protect yourself against bullying and zero-tolerance policies.

  • Put your hand up and walk away.
  • Raise your voice and say, “Stop!” or “No!”
  • Immediately walk toward a teacher or friend.
  • Make friends with other victims.
  • Use your friends as witnesses.
  • Document the bullying.
  • Tell a “safe adult” in private.
  • Save any online texts, messages, or posts.

You deserve to learn in peace. Therefore, know these facts, and you’ll protect yourself successfully.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying Most People Miss

Want to know the hidden truth behind bullying that most people miss? Here are all the details you need to know.

the hidden truth behind bullying

Bullies don’t bully just anyone. They carefully select their targets. Moreover, anti-bullying policies don’t work. And there’s a reason that no one realizes, not even “the experts.”

Therefore, in this post, you will learn the hidden truth behind bullying that most people miss, so you can better understand where it comes from.

Once you discover the hidden factor behind the torment, you will be better able to strategize and take steps to overcome it.

This post will give you the unknown reason behind the bullying you suffer so that you can more easily make yourself bully-proof and rise above bullying.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying

It’s not so much what we know about bullying. It’s what we still don’t know. In other words, it’s what most of us miss. Here are the facts most don’t realize.

1. Bullying is Strategic.

It may not look that way, but bullies are calculating. They plot and scheme. And they plan their attacks well in advance.

But first, they must decide who to target.

Bullies usually choose those who can’t fight back. They also pick people who won’t be defended. Lastly, they select someone they can put down and improve their social status.

2. Bullying is More than Just behavior; it’s a Tool.

Many institutions, like schools and workplaces, have a social ranking system. People tend to sort others into one of three categories. Therefore, it isn’t about fairness.

It’s about “how can I climb the social ladder and whose back can I step on to do it?” It’s also about, “Who can I bully and get away with it?”

They don’t ask, “Is this the kind thing to do?” Kindness goes out the window when someone wants to move up the social ladder.

Therefore, they use bullying to push you down so they can move up or stay up.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

3. It’s not about who’s different, It’s about Who has the least power.

People are placed in three possible categories:

  • High status
  • Equal status
  • Low status

There are plenty of those who are “different.” However, not all of them get bullied. Even “normal” people get bullied.

Bullying is less about difference and more about vulnerability. Bullies are cowards. They won’t bully just anyone. Instead, they search for safe targets- those who are less likely to fight back.

They also look for those who have low status. Why? Because these are low-risk. And they yield the best social rewards.

4. Reputation SPREADS faster than truth.

Once someone is labeled “weird” or “weak,” that label can stick even if it’s false. As a result, the label will spread quickly throughout the community.

And no one will bother to verify it. Why? Because it’s easier to believe it than to question it. And once your reputation takes a hit, your social position drops.

Bullies will target you. Then, you become persona non grata. In other words, you’re no longer welcome.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

5. Bullying is Mostly a Group Effort.

Bullies rarely bully alone. They need groupies to back them up. Even when one person is bullying you, an audience is there to see it.

Moreover, some bystanders may be the bully’s supporters. Only you won’t know it because they’re silent about it. Others will just be damn glad that it isn’t them who’s taking the heat.

However, most bullies bully in packs. They will all gang up on you because they know that there’s strength in numbers.

The more bullies there are, the more powerful the group.

6. Most bullies bully to protect their own social status.

As I mentioned earlier, bullying is a tool to either gain status or to protect it. Bullies will shove you down so that they can stay up.

Bullying is a zero-sum game. In other words, you must lose for them to win. There is no in-between. In fact, it’s the only way they can win.

Therefore, the ends justify the means. If they can keep you in the basement, then they can enjoy the penthouse suite.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

7. Most bullying is subtle, not obvious.

Most bullies, especially those with high status, don’t bully directly. They do it subtly. For example, they may use the silent treatment on you. Or they may exclude you from important functions.

You see? High-status people don’t like to get their hands dirty. They can bully you and still look innocent. Therefore, they’re sneaky with the insults.

Others may send others to bully you. They may get someone on the lower levels to do their dirty work for them.

For instance, a popular homecoming queen may enlist someone of lower status to harm her victim.  And if the attacker gets caught, they take the fall while she keeps her hands clean.

And no one will be the wiser.

8. Bullying isn’t just people being mean, It’s an organized System.

You may be tempted to explain bullying as “some people are just mean.” And that’s a factor. However, this doesn’t explain why.

Understand that even “nice” people can become bullies. And they usually do when they fear becoming the next target.

And different ones either stay silent or join in. Therefore, bullying is a system. It’s made up of different roles, positions, and incentives.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

9. Every Bullying Situation is Structured.

Why? or How? You may wonder.

It has different actors who play their roles. You have the instigator, who starts shit with you. You then have the reinforcers, who point and laugh at you.

Next, you have the bystanders, who see it but say nothing. Lastly, you have the victim, who catches the abuse. That’s you.

You may have the defenders, but they’re rare. Most people don’t stand up for victims.

10. Success doesn’t lessen Bullying. It Triggers more of it.

When you reach success in something, you might expect the bullying to stop. However, it won’t. It will only get worse.

Why? Because bullies see you as inferior. Therefore, they will resent you for your success. By making an accomplishment, you threaten the hierarchy. Moreover, you disrupt the way others think of you.

In other words, you step out of your place. Therefore, bullies will intensify the abuse to pull you down. They will try to force you back into the role they assigned you. And that role is “victim.”

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

11. Anti-Bullying policies Don’t work.

Most institutions today have policies against bullying. However, you can’t rely on those policies. Why? Because they have no teeth! Anti-bullying policies aren’t worth a damn.

The only reason schools and workplaces have these policies is that the government requires them. Therefore, these guidelines are only for decoration.

In fact, these places have had anti-bullying policies for at least a decade. Yet, cases of bullying continue to rise exponentially. And it’s because those in power ignore it.

Schools sweep incidents under the rug. And they refuse to allow victims’ parents to see any surveillance footage of bullying attacks.

They blame the victim. And they may even go so far as to take revenge on parents who fight for their child. Therefore, the only reason these policies exist is to make the institution look good.

Schools and workplaces can write all the anti-bullying rules and policies they want. But until they enforce those policies, they’re cheap. As cheap as the ink and paper administrators use to write them!

Policies are no good if they aren’t enforced.

Bullying is about who has the least power.

Those with the least power are the ones bullies will target. You see? They prefer to pick low-hanging fruit. Why? Because they don’t have to work as hard to bring these people down.

Think about it. Those who are powerless can’t defend themselves. Most power comes from social connections. And if you have no power, you likely don’t have any friends. Therefore, no one will stand up for you.

If no one will back you up, you might as well be caught with your pants down around your ankles. Because you’re stuck out in the open with your ass hanging in the breeze.

The Hidden Truth Behind Bullying:

Teacher Bullying: When Teachers Join In

Want to know the ins and outs of teacher bullying? Here’s what happens if you’re a kid in school and bullied by both peers and teachers.

teacher bullying

If you’re being bullied at school, teachers and school staff can quickly become part of the problem. Although this is unintentional in many cases, it’s deliberate in some.

Sure, some kids complain about being bullied by a teacher simply because they don’t like doing homework. Or the teacher got on to them for disrupting class.

Good teachers get accused of bullying when the student is being unruly and gets called out for it. However, those are different scenarios in which the student is at fault, not the teacher.

However, some teachers bully innocent students. And not because they’re bad students, but because they’re at the bottom of the social hierarchy and bullied by their more popular peers.

Therefore, in this post, you will learn about teacher bullying and why it will make your situation worse.

Once you learn all the tiny details of this kind of abuse, you will be better able to recognize it the next time it happens. You will be able to call it out. And you will be able to make better decisions as to what to do about it.

This post is all about teacher bullying, so that you will know what is happening. Then you will be able to articulate what is happening and do what you need to regain your safety.

Teacher Bullying

It’s not uncommon for a teacher to actively hate a student. In fact, it happens more frequently than you think.

It’s bad enough when your peers bully you. However, when teachers join in on the torment, you’re fighting a war on two fronts.

One for your academic freedom and one for your social survival.

A teacher may bully a student for one or more of several reasons. However, it is still wrong, and it can crush a child’s spirit.

The damage to the kid’s self-esteem cannot be understated. It’s harmful enough to be bullied by your classmates. However, when the teacher joins in, it’s devastating!

Why some teachers bully

People, especially children and teens, tend to act out in places where they feel mistreated. When you constantly deal with abuse, it causes your brain to become sensitive to it.

Therefore, you eventually begin behaving the way everyone expects you to. And why not? If everyone treats you like a pariah, it feels better to be a rebel. Why keep trying to be friendly when others only wipe their feet on you?

This only makes you more likely to react emotionally. Teachers then use it as proof that you’re nothing but trouble.

Therefore, some teachers may react by labeling victims of bullying as troublemakers. Or they may deal out extra harsh punishments. Here are other things they may do.

Teacher Bullying:

1. Share gossip about you with other teachers

Bullying teachers often use gossip to warn other teachers and staff about you. This causes other educators to have a preexisting bias against you before they ever get a chance to meet you.

And when you try to introduce yourself, they will only think you’re being fake. They may even frame you as a manipulator. Why? Because they’ve already “heard things” about you.

In other words, others have primed them to see you in a negative light.

Also, gossip is used as a low-risk way to keep you in line. Through it, they can enforce the rules without confronting you directly.

The third thing gossip does is tighten bonds in groups. By sharing the belief that you are “evil” or “weird,” they signal what the “correct” behavior is. Therefore, they demonstrate loyalty to the rest of the group.

2. They Use your reputation as their filter

The school climate can become a roadblock to change.

For example, students and staff have a fixed mindset and believe that people don’t change. You no longer react emotionally to bullying.

Instead, you just let them run their mouths. You decide that they aren’t worth wasting your energy and walk away. But that doesn’t work so well.

They only ignore the progress you’ve made and bring up your past.

Teacher Bullying:

3. They Deny you the benefit of the doubt

Once your teachers have labeled you, they won’t give you the leeway they give other students.

Even if you make an honest mistake, these teachers will see it as intentional misbehavior. Why? Because they automatically expect you to misbehave.

And because they expect you to be bad, they will have much less patience with you than with the other classmates.

For instance, they may yell at you for accidents like dropping a book, things they’d ignore if it were someone else.

4. Negative Biases.

If you happen to be a high achiever, a teacher who bullies you may place you in a lower class. And they’ll do this to keep your actual skills from being noticed and reduce your opportunities.

Why teacher bullying is much harder to stand against

Peer bullying is difficult enough to stand up to. However, when the bully is a teacher, it’s damn near impossible. Here’s why.

Teacher Bullying:

1. Power imbalance

When you’re a kid, and the bully is the adult in charge, you don’t have a chance. The teacher has access to your permanent school record.

Therefore, the bully holds the “official” record of who you are. With it,  they also hold your future in their hands.

They decide if you’re eligible for scholarships. Moreover, they decide whether you’re a good fit for college. Therefore, they hold a lot of power.

Teachers who can’t stand you don’t only have low opinions of you. They also have low expectations of you as well.

As a result, it creates a glass ceiling that you can’t break through.

2. With a teacher who doesn’t like you, you’re guilty until proven innocent.

If a teacher labels you a “problem student,” they won’t look for the cause of your behavior. No. Instead, they’ll only focus on the consequence.

In other words, they won’t care that someone provoked you; they’ll focus on your reaction to it.

Here’s another example. If you’re frustrated because your schoolwork is too easy, they won’t see a bored genius who needs to skip a grade. Instead, they’ll see a disrespectful brat.

Teacher Bullying:

3. It sets a terrible example for the other classmates.

When a teacher mistreats you, it gives your classmates the license to bully you. They see someone in authority dehumanizing you. Therefore, they think it’s okay for them to do it too.

4. It forces you to be perfect just so you can be seen as average.

When you’re bullied by peers and teachers alike, there’s no margin for error. Why? Because they will give you no wiggle room whatsoever.

Bullying teachers will punish you for minor mistakes they’d ignore if it were anyone else. For example, if one of the “good” students forgets their homework, it’s just an isolated incident.

But if you forget yours even once, it’s a habit. Therefore, you must work twice as hard for only half the credit.

5. If you mature in your behavior, no one will believe it.

Most victims of bullying grow. They eventually mature and outgrow old behaviors. However, once you’ve been marginalized, no one will believe that you’ve changed.

Instead, they may accuse you of being fake. They may also tell others that you think you’re better than everyone else. Moreover, the calmer you are, the more aggressive they will get.

However, they do this because they’re afraid people may start liking the new you. Understand that you could become a saint, and they would still look at you through a distorted lens.

They would still see “that loser” from five years ago.

Teacher Bullying:

6. You soon burn out from exhaustion.

Because you have to work twice as hard as everyone else for half the credit, you grow tired after a while. Eventually, you give up and say, “Okay. Fine! If that’s who you think I am, that’s who I’ll be.”

Changing schools is your only solution.

Why change schools?

Changing schools gives you a blank slate. Therefore, you get a fresh start with people you have no history with.

Once you transfer to a new school, you escape the gossip network. You are out of the bullies’ reach. Therefore, they can no longer harm you.

In a new school, you don’t have an “old you” to compare yourself to. They see your calm as confidence, not fakery. Your maturity is part of your personality, not a cover.

You don’t have to fight anymore. Therefore, you get to keep all your energy for yourself instead of spending it trying to fix things that can’t be repaired. The exhaustion can be the worst part of the bullying experience.

When you move to a new school, the ghosts from the past can’t follow you. So, you can finally put the old version of you to bed and turn over a new leaf.

Then you can begin to rebuild your life.

In short, when you leave a toxic school, their power goes with you. You break the spell that their gossip cast on your life.

Teacher Bullying:

In Conclusion

When teachers and school staff bully a student, it’s not about which kid is right or wrong. It’s about which child has the least power.

And sadly, teachers tend to bully powerless students. In other words, they bully those at the bottom of the social order. The ones who are bullied the most by classmates.

Teachers are the adults in the room. They are the authority figures. Therefore, they set the social temperature of the entire classroom.

When a teacher bullies you, they set a dangerous precedent. How?

By bullying you, the adult in charge signals to the rest of the class that it’s acceptable for them to bully you. And don’t think they won’t. Your peers will take full advantage.

And, when they do, the teacher will only let them get away with it.

However, when you move to a new school, you’ll feel a sense of relief. You won’t need to perform the same survival behaviors you did at your old school.

Therefore, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and be your best self. And you will only flourish going forward.

How to Stop Bullying in Schools: 5 Secrets No One Will Tell You

Want to know how to stop bullying in schools? Here are all the things experts are afraid to tell you.

how to stop bullying in schools

Realize that we all have a responsibility here. It isn’t just the schools or the school board. Stopping bullying in schools is a community effort.

Therefore, in this post, you will learn how to stop bullying in schools by first discovering the secrets no one else tells you.

Once you learn all these hidden truths, you will be better able to protect your child from bullying if you are a parent. Moreover, if you’re a child in school, you will also be able to defend yourself without guilt or apology.

This post will tell you how to stop bullying in schools by discovering the hidden secrets that most people don’t know.

How to Stop Bullying In Schools

Too many people rely on the schools and the school district to curtail bullying. However, what they don’t realize is that this takes responsibility from all of us. That means not only the schools, but more so, parents and students.

1. Teach your child how to defend themselves

The house cats always want a piece of the barn cat… until they get a piece of the barn cat.

If you’re a parent and your child is being bullied, you must assure them that it’s okay for them to defend themselves. Realize that there is no nice way to deal with bullies. Why? Because bullies only understand strength.

They don’t respond to reason. To a bully, reason is weakness. Again, you must teach your child to respond with strength.

And, if you’re a child or teen being bullied in school, know that it’s okay to defend yourself. In fact, it’s the only way you can stop bullies from bullying you. If another kid hits you, hit them back… harder!

And don’t think that one lick will do it. When you hit them back, you keep hitting them. You beat the fire out of them. The point here is to make them never want to even look in your general direction again.

To be blunt, beat the living hell out of them.

How to Stop Bullying in Schools:

But what if the bullying is just dirty looks or verbal insults?

If it’s verbal bullying you’re dealing with, then have a good burn to come back with. The trick is to humiliate the bully in public with a good roast.

Cause them embarrassment. And once you do, the bully is least likely to come for you again. If the bully gives you a death glare, return it. Never look away.

Why? Because when you avoid their stare, you signal fear. And bullying thrives on your being afraid.

Therefore, mirror the bully’s dirty look. When you do, you show them that they don’t intimidate you. Therefore, you keep the upper hand.

If you’re a parent, teach your children these things. Teach them to stand up for themselves. Why? Because when someone is messing with them at school, the last thing you want is for them to become a victim.

2. Bullying is more than just behavior. It’s a system.

Conflict may be just an isolated behavior. But bullying isn’t. It’s a pattern. Conflict is between two or more people who are equal. There’s no victim.

On the other hand, bullying needs a victim. And if it’s bullying, the victim has less power.

In simpler terms, it isn’t just one kid being mean. Bullying is a trap that uses an entire group. Also, it needs social rules and norms to keep happening.

You see? Bullying is like a machine. A machine has several cogs or gears. If one gear turns, they all turn.

The bully and the victim are only two gears in this machine. There are more. The other gears are:

  • Joiners
  • Watchers
  • Adults

How to Stop Bullying in Schools:

Joiners

The joiners are the students who join in with the bully. When the bully begins messing with you, there will be those who join in. Why? Because they want to look cool to the rest of the student body.

Or they might fear they’ll be next.

Watchers

The watchers are those who stand around and watch it go down. They may point at you and laugh, or they may do nothing. But they don’t join in. They’re the audience.

The joiners and watchers are the bully’s fuel. Why? Because they make the bully feel like they’re winning.

Adults

The adults are the teachers, principal, and other school staff. They either don’t know about the bullying or pretend not to.

Moreover, even some of them may join in. But they don’t do it in the same way the joiners do. They may do it later by humiliating you in class.

And they do it simply because they don’t like you. Also, they may think that you deserve to be bullied.

How to Stop Bullying in Schools:

How to Break the Machine

Therefore, bullying is a system. Why? Because if the audience claps, the machine keeps humming.

If the adults ignore it, it keeps running. If the joiners join in, they only oil the rest of the gears. To shut down this vicious machine, you can’t just focus on the bully’s behavior. You must address how everyone acts.

3. Don’t rely on anti-bullying policies to save you.

Most schools today have policies against bullying. In fact, they’ve had them for at least a decade. Yet, bullying continues to get worse. And schools continue to ignore it.

Even worse, they sweep incidents under the rug. In many cases, they even refuse to allow your parents to see any surveillance footage.

Also, schools sometimes blame you for the bully’s behavior. And they may take revenge on your parents if they continue to fight for you.

Therefore, it’s safe to say that anti-bullying policies don’t work. They aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.

Anti-bullying policies are required by the government. And schools comply. Why? Because if they don’t have them, they risk losing federal funding.

Therefore, the only reason these policies exist is to make them look good.

How to Stop Bullying in Schools:

4. Teach your child confidence.

As I just mentioned, schools rarely help victims of bullying. Therefore, it is the parents’ job to instill confidence in children. You must realize that no one is coming to save your child. Not the school, not the police, no one.

Only you can be the hero your kid needs. And how you do that is to teach confidence. Why? Because confidence is the first line of defense against bullying. In fact, it’s the best protection.

And how do you teach confidence? You teach your babies to believe in themselves. Teach them to love themselves. Tell them that they can do anything they set their minds to. And, if they’re being bullied, you listen to them when they need to talk.

Praise them for good deeds. Let them know how proud you are of them. And back them up if they ever get into a fight with a bully. The school may suspend them, but you won’t punish them.

No one should be punished for self-defense.

5. Realize that we each are responsible for our own safety.

If you’re the parent of a bullied kid, it’s your responsibility to have their back when the school won’t do anything. That means going to the school and addressing it when a bully forces them to fight.

Also, it means doing your own investigation. Encourage your baby to keep a bullying journal. Tell them to write about every incident.

And if you’re the victim, you are responsible for your own safety. You only get one chance to make yourself bully-proof. Therefore, make that chance count.

How to Stop Bullying in Schools:

It’s okay to defend yourself from bullying.

If bullies make a derogatory statement to you. It’s up to you to counter that statement. Start today by countering every negative statement bullies throw at you.

Tell yourself that you are awesome. Also, tell yourself that you’re a trooper and you deserve much better than the crap they give you.

Become a force to be reckoned with. Stand up and let these confidence thieves know that they have no control over your life. Reclaim your power and do it NOW!

If you’re a victim of bullying, can you truly and totally rely on people in authority to help you? Can you rely on them to do something about the bullying you suffer?

Moreover, can you depend on them to hold your bullies accountable for their horrible behavior? Can you rely on others to bring you justice?

The answer is a resounding NO!

How to Stop Bullying In Schools:

In Conclusion

Most people may tell you to ignore it. However, this is wrong. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe most of these people have never been bullied?

Therefore, how can they tell you what to do if they haven’t been there? Let’s do a quick recap before we close. Here are the secrets you should know to protect yourself.

  • Teach your child how to defend themselves (for parents)
  • Bullying is more than just behavior; it’s a system.
  • Don’t rely on anti-bullying policies to save you.
  • Teach your child confidence (for parents)
  • Realize that we each are responsible for our own safety.

Once you know all these things, your whole perspective will change.

This post was all about how to stop bullying in schools so that you will have the knowledge you need to protect yourself or someone you love.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying: 4 Signs They Bully You Because of Envy

Want to know about jealousy-driven bullying? It’s a fact that most bullying comes from envy. Here are all the signs that your bullies bully you because they envy you.

jealousy-driven bullying

Photo from Dreamstime

What most victims of bullying don’t realize is that most bullying comes from jealousy. Therefore, in this post, you will learn about jealousy-driven bullying and all the signs that they’re abusing you because they’re jealous.

Once you learn these facts, you will feel much better about yourself, knowing they don’t do it because there’s something wrong with you. They bully you because you’re doing something right.

This post is all about jealousy-driven bullying, so that you can have confidence in yourself even when people treat you badly.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying

This kind of bullying is more common than you think. They may be jealous of something you have. Or it could be a personality trait you have that they wish they had.

Whatever the reason, when bullies are jealous of you, it only means that they feel inferior to you. Therefore, they have to bully you to make themselves look superior.

So, what is jealousy-driven bullying? It’s when a bully targets another person out of envy and a desire to have what the victim has. Again, it could be something material. Or it could be a characteristic.

Your bullies will never admit it. Therefore, we need to know the signs.

Remarks Bullies Make Anytime You Succeed at Something

Isn’t it funny that when you do something right,  when they succeed, bullies have a smear-fest? And they will do so especially if you receive recognition for a job well done.

Is it only when you win an award or do a good deed that bullies protest the loudest? They work feverishly to minimize any positive qualities and maximize the negative ones.

Bullies will also be quick to bring up a past mistake or wrongdoing. But understand this right now. They do it to overshadow your accomplishment. It’s the only way they can throw shade on your positive qualities.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying:

When you’re up, bullies will try to pull you back down.

I’ve had firsthand experience with this because my classmates did the same to me. Even later, a few envious coworkers did too.

Understand that, if you’re a target of bullying, your bullies see you as the bad guy. And they want everyone else to see you the same way.

They can’t even stand the thought of you achieving success, let alone getting recognized for it. Therefore, whenever you score a win, expect your bullies to do everything in their power to downplay it.

They may remind you of a mistake you made decades ago, when you were a foolish kid. They may also make all kinds of wild accusations about your win. Here are a few cruel remarks bullies will make.

1. You cheated.

Your bullies will refuse to believe that you won that coveted award through hard work. And they’ll move Heaven and Earth to convince you and everyone else of it, too.

“There’s no way she could’ve won that prize honestly! There’s no way!”

“She had to have cheated! Who in their right mind would make her the winner!”

“There’s more to this than meets the eye!”

Don’t fall for it! And don’t fret if others choose to foolishly believe the bullies. Instead, see it for what it is and what it’s meant to do.

This is designed to dull your shine and cast doubt in others’ minds. Your bullies mean to make others assume that your success or accolades are illegitimate.

It implies that you didn’t come by them fairly. It’s also designed to discredit you and cause others to resent you.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying:

2. It was just plain luck.

Let’s say you make a good grade at school. Your school bullies and other classmates may pass it off as you being lucky. Realize that when they say these things, they mean to discredit your abilities.

Moreover, they want to cheapen your success in the eyes of those around you. The underlying message is that you couldn’t have made it if you tried. And that your accomplishment was some freak accident.

3. You kiss arse.

Ah, yes! Your bullies will say that you sucked up and won favor with the right people. They will accuse you of scoring “brownie points.”

They will whine, saying that the person whose ass you kissed gave you a boost. And they will say that you got an unfair advantage.

Again, this is designed to discredit you and undermine your abilities and intelligence. It’s also meant to instill intense anger and resentment toward you in others.

4. You slept your way to success.

For example, you’re a woman who’s a target of workplace bullying. And you happen to get that coveted promotion you and several competitors have been vying for.

Therefore, be prepared to get accused of “f***ing the boss man.” Bullies don’t censor their words, and that’s exactly what they’ll say.

Also, let’s say that your workplace bullies are trying to get you fired. And your boss happens to know better and goes to bat for you. They will also accuse you of giving sexual favors.

And sadly, this is the most common accusation if you are female.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying:

Why DO THEY MAKE THESE ACCUSATIONS?

Let’s use number four, for example. Just like all the rest, this remark is meant to undermine your abilities. Bullies want to trivialize your smarts and discredit you.

They want to cheapen your accomplishments in others’ eyes. At the same time, they want to provoke anger, hatred, and resentment toward you.

It’s also meant to degrade you as a lady. By accusing you of trading sex for favor, bullies instill in others the belief that you’re nothing but an opportunistic slut. And you’ll spread your legs to get ahead in life.

This happened to me when I worked at a nursing home years ago, and let me tell you. It wasn’t fun!

But don’t fret over any of this! I want you to see it for what it is. It’s jealousy, poor sportsmanship, and trash-talk!

The key to keeping your confidence is to realize what’s behind the trash-talk.

You must see it for what it is and what it means. And what it is is jealousy. And what it means is that your bullies are a bunch of crybabies.

They’re whining and foaming at the mouth because they didn’t get that cookie, and you did! Therefore, they feel inferior, and they can no longer be the center of attention.

It means that they feel cheated and indignant. And when they behave like this, they expose themselves as the real losers!

Jealousy-Driven Bullying:

Accusations are usually confessions.

But wait! Here’s something else most people rarely think about. If you’re a target or survivor of bullying, you’re going to love this little gem of truth!

Anytime your bullies make any of the above accusations, it’s a confession. In other words, your bullies are projecting. They’re accusing you of the very things they either would do or are doing themselves!

Think about it. How many husbands have falsely accused their innocent wives of cheating, only to end up being caught cheating themselves?

It’s the same when bullies falsely accuse you of wrongdoing. Anytime they are so quick to point fingers at you for an alleged transgression, it’s a good sign they’re committing the same sins themselves.

They’re just trying to cover their own behinds. Always remember that!

Jealousy exposes inferiority.

Jealousy is downright ugly. It really is. Not only does it produce rage, but it also exposes inferiority. Why? Because you’re inferior to the people you envy.

This is why it’s the one emotion that people work damn hard to hide. You see? Bullying is about power. When bullies target someone, they do it to control that person. In other words, they do it to feel and look superior to the victim.

So, when bullies bully you out of jealousy, they, in a way, admit that they’re inferior to you. They want something you have. But they don’t feel they can ever get it. Therefore, they abuse you to make up for that.

Jealousy-Driven Bullying:

Here’s what they’re saying through their behavior.

“You’ve got it, I want it, and I can never get it! So, because you have it, I’m going to make you suffer for it!”

“If I can’t have it, then, by George, you can’t have it either!”

“I want it, you’ve got it, and I hate you for having what I want!”

In conclusion

When envious bullies bully you, your pain gives them a sense of justice. By making you feel bad about yourself, the bullies are “leveling the playing field.” They’re evening it up. They’re reinforcing their sense of fairness.

Let’s say that you have talent in swimming, and it’s what you love to do. Your talent has won you many awards, and your bullies are mad jealous. And they make you feel horrible about yourself by turning all your friends against you.

The message is this.

“She may have talent, but she has no friends. So, at least I have that one up on her!”

This is how jealous bullies think. Therefore, never apologize for your successes. Be proud of your accomplishments. And defend yourself if you must.

This post was all about jealousy-driven bullying so that you know the signs of it and continue to feel good about yourself even if they mistreat you.

Bullies are skilled manipulators. And exposing them takes strategic planning.

Therefore, in this post, you will learn how to expose a bully so that you can protect yourself from future bullying. And you can also salvage your reputation.

Once you learn all these crucial steps, you will be able to overcome bullying and reclaim your power.

This post will teach you how to expose a bully so that you can finally begin living in peace.

How to Expose a Bully

Most bullies are fakers and posers. However, they’re good at it. Therefore, you need to strategize to show others who they really are. So, how do you expose a bully?

Here’s a list of things you can do.

1. Pay Attention to Detail.

First, let me tell you a story.

During high school, I couldn’t count the people who posed. I guessed that at least half of the class did it.

In high school, everything is based on appearances. Therefore, those who fake it best and most convincingly are usually the bullies and the most popular.

However, most high school kids don’t pay attention to detail. Thankfully, I was one of the few who did.

In the lunch line, I would notice that most of the guys in the clique wore their flashy designer clothes. Yet, most of them would pull out a cheap, fifteen-dollar wallet to pay for their lunches.

Also, the girls in the clique would wear their high-fashion clothes. However, cheap, knock-off “Gucci” handbags would be hanging from their shoulders and arms.

If you paid close attention and had an eye for detail, you could tell by the stitching patterns and thread counts that these purses were fake.

Many of my classmates wore fake gold Rolex watches. They also wore faux fur and suede, cheap costume jewelry, and fake leather and snakeskin. It was laughable at best!

Most bullies love to look like they’re rolling in money. However, they only look ridiculous to someone who knows better.

How to Expose a Bully:

2. Call them out in front of an Audience.

If your bullies are trying to look like they’re rich, pay attention to the tiny things.

You may still be wondering what the point of this story is. The point is that, if you’re a target, your bullies will most likely bully you over your virtues, not your faults. A

They will also project their fakery and insecurities onto you. So, call it out in front of an audience when they accuse you of being fake.

3. Recognize when your bullies are projecting.

Authentic people are comfortable being themselves. However, they suffer the most bullying. It’s just a fact of this messed-up world we live in.

So, I want you to know this. When people bully you, it is not because you’re doing something wrong. It’s because you’re doing something right.

It’s not that there’s something wrong with you; it’s because there’s something right with you.

Most posers bully others because they’re angry that they must work so hard at being fake. And they’re jealous of anyone who doesn’t.

Therefore, your self-esteem should soar when you realize this fundamental truth. Posers hate and bully authentic people because they are the complete opposite of them.

How to Expose a Bully:

4. Document

Keep a bullying journal. Why? Because it will give you a legal record of their behavior. Moreover, it will reveal a pattern.

Write down every incident in detail. Write down what happened and the names of those involved. Also, record the names of witnesses.

Include the date and exact time of the incident, where it happened, and why. When you keep a log of bullying, you create evidence.

5. Record

Depending on your state’s laws, you may wear a hidden body camera and record the bullying. You can also hide a digital recorder in your purse, backpack, or pocket.

Just make sure recordings are legal in your state.

How To Expose a Bully:

6. Bait them.

This may be scary to do, but trust me. Get your bullies angry enough, and they will come to you. Play on the natural human tendency to react out of anger.

Get your bullies to pursue you, since they only expend their own energy chasing you. An added benefit to this is that it forces them to act on your terms.

Also, when you trick them into pursuing you, you automatically fool them into thinking that they’re controlling the situation.

However, there’s one requirement for this to work. You must remain calm. Calmness enables you to think clearly and strategize effectively. Emotions, on the other hand, block those abilities.

Get them to come to your territory.

When you do get your bullies to come for you, always get them on your territory. If you cannot get them into your element, then choose neutral ground. Never meet bullies on their turf! It’s much too dangerous.

If you can get your bullies on your territory, you’ll keep your bearings. On the other hand, they’ll be on the defensive because they’ll be on unfamiliar ground.

And they won’t feel you pulling their strings.

Make your bait so sweet that your bullies can’t refuse. Use yourself as bait if necessary, especially if they’re so pissed off at you that they can’t see past their desire to “get you.”

Their intense rage will close their eyes to reality. Therefore, they’ll be more than happy to come to where you are.

The angrier they are, the more desperate they’ll be to get back at you. And the easier it’ll be for you to lead them by the nose. Right into the trap that you’ve prepared for them! Just do it with caution.

And if you can get your bullies to dig their own graves, you’ve already won. To quote Sun Tzu, “Never interfere when an enemy is destroying themselves.”

How to Expose a Bully:

7. Use their own tactics against them.

To expose the bullies for the brutes they are, use their tactics against them! How you do this is to find what triggers their emotions, then use it to your advantage.

And why not? They’ve been doing the same to you for a long time now, haven’t they? Sometimes you must play the bully’s game if you expect to survive.

And I know it’s not a pleasant place to be. It sucks! But sometimes, you must wade through crap to come out clean on the other side.

Here’s how you do it:

Get them in public

Make sure coworkers, bosses, classmates, and teachers are present. Then very sneakily do something you know will trigger them.

Bait them into a reaction. Then stand back and watch with pleasure as the bully yells, curses, and rants in front of everyone.

If you live in a one-party consent jurisdiction, record the outburst. And if you’re sure it’s safe, blast it all over social media.

8. make friends with others your bullies have bullied.

Then you can have them spread it all over social media. Give the bully the reputation they so deserve. Befriending other victims also has ways of getting under their skin.

Bullies hate it when you talk to people they hate. Also, they especially hate it when their targets unite and form a group! That really ticks them off because, deep down, it intimidates them.

Think about it: bullies always run in packs. They also catch their targets when they’re alone. But when a group of victims bands together, the bullies feel threatened.

Why? Because they lose power.

Exposure is the best way to conquer bullies! So, out them! Better yet, trick them into outing themselves!

How to Expose a Bully:

9. Get them rattled.

Sometimes, to expose your bullies, you must rattle them. If you’re not sure how to do it, think Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam!

Getting a bully rattled is as easy as smiling. Therefore, say nothing to them; look at them and smile as if you know something they don’t. I promise you. It’ll drive them up the wall!

They’ll ask you what the hell you’re smiling at. And they’ll raise their voice when they do it. But don’t get defensive. Don’t say anything. Just walk away, snickering.

Your bullies will be madly bewildered. They’ll look at each other, wondering why you seem so smug. Next, they’ll wonder what it is you’re up to, and curiosity will get the best of them.

You’ll throw them off! Trust me. Bullies always assume you’re up to something when you act this way. Also, they’ll hunt for answers like hounds sniffing a trail.

Moreover, your bullies will most likely think you’re making fun of them. And they’ll get angry. But all the better for you.

Here’s why.

  • When someone is really pissed off, they lose the ability to think straight and control their emotions.
  • When you stir someone up, you throw them off balance. When this happens, they usually screw up and do something foolish.

If they challenge you to a fight, don’t fight unless it’s necessary. Again, you want to get them in front of a crowd and get them so mad that they throw a hissy fit.

Your goal is to get them to expose themselves to bystanders and those in authority!

Oops! BUSTED!

Sadly, this is the only way to expose a bully. You do it by allowing others to see them act out firsthand. But before you employ this tactic, be sure the bully doesn’t carry a deadly weapon.

Also, be sure they aren’t criminally violent or unhinged.

How to Expose a Bully:

In Conclusion

Exposing bullies is easier than you think. And there are several ways you can do it. Here’s a quick recap.

  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Call them out in front of an audience.
  • Recognize when your bullies are projecting.
  • Document.
  • Record.
  • Bait them.
  • Use their own tactics against them.
  • Make friends with others your bullies have bullied.
  • Get them rattled.

And remember always to stay calm when you use these methods.

Safe Targets: 17 Signs You’re “Safe” to Bully and What You Can Do

Did you know that some victims seem to be “safe targets” for bullies? Have you ever noticed that abusers can harm some people without consequences? Are you one of them? Here are all the signs that you’re in danger, along with what you can do to escape the situation.

safe targets

Have you ever noticed that some victims are easy targets for bullying? Do you suspect that you might fall into this category?

In this post, you will learn all the signs that you may be a safe target. You can also learn what you can do to overcome them.

Once you learn these crucial details, you will no longer have any doubts, and you will be inspired to take steps to ensure your safety.

This post is all about the signs that you’re one of the safe targets and what to do about it so that you can finally begin living your life in peace.

Safe Targets

When the bullying reaches this point, that’s when things can get dangerous! People others deem safe to abuse are in danger because you never know when they will take the violence too far.

Targets have been murdered in situations like this. I’ve read about several of these killings in the news, and most of them have happened in school. Even worse, many of the killers have either been acquitted or received a slap on the wrist.

Why? Because they were minors. Therefore, at best, they may serve for as little as five years. It’s absolutely sickening.

What are the signs of safe targets?

Here are all the warning signs that you need to be aware of.

1. Ruined reputation and social isolation.

Loners are safe targets because they have no friends. If you have no friends, you have no support.

And when you have no support, there’s no risk of people backing you up against a bully. Therefore, bullies will know it’s safe to bully you.

And don’t think they won’t take full advantage! When no one likes you, you’re a sitting duck.

2. You have low self-esteem.

When you have low self-esteem, it shows. It’s evident in the way you walk, stand, or sit. And you have poor posture.

In other words, you slouch in your chair when you sit. You hunch when you stand. Your shoulders are rounded forward.

Instead of walking with purpose, you stroll like you have no direction. And you don’t swing your arms when you walk.

Your head is tilted downward, and you avoid eye contact.

This signals low self-esteem, and it attracts bullies. Why? Because someone with low self-esteem likely won’t fight back.

Safe Targets:

3. The bullying worsens.

When bullies think they can get away with bullying you, they’ll push their limits. And they’ll do it little by little.

For instance, they start with subtle insults. Then, they resort to calling you names. Pushes and shoves turn into punches and kicks.

With time, the bullies bully you more openly.

4. The bullying becomes a ritual.

When bullies discover that you’re a safe target to bully, there’s no incentive to stop. Then, the abuse becomes a habit they can’t seem to break.

5. Bullies bully you openly.

They don’t even try to hide it. Safe targets often suffer direct bullying. Why? Because if you’re safe, there’s no reason to hide it. In fact, bullies want other people to see them.

That way, they can show off.

“Look at me! I’m more powerful! Look at this loser, he’s weak!”

6. Bystanders ignore it and do nothing.

When bystanders ignore bullying and do nothing, they become just as bad as the bullies. There are many reasons bystanders don’t do anything about bullying.

Maybe they’re scared of becoming the next target.

It could be that they don’t like you and they think you deserve to be bullied. Also, the bullies could be their proxies.

In other words, your bullies are doing what they wish they had the balls to do.

Safe Targets:

7. Bystanders enjoy watching it.

When bullies bully you in front of an audience, you may hear laughing and giggling in the background. Most bystanders think it’s funny to watch someone get “schooled”.

However, it isn’t so funny to you. And they wouldn’t think so either, if they were the ones being bullied in public.

Bystanders may point and stare. Or they may giggle. But they do it because they’re getting their kicks at your expense.

And they’ll talk about it too.  Therefore, they will whisper and gossip about the bullying incident to everyone who will listen.

They will say things like, “Katie got her ass kicked in the bathroom yesterday! I mean, she got her shit rocked!”

Here are other statements bystanders who hate you might make after bullies publicly attack you.

  • “I don’t feel sorry for the bitch! She got what she deserved, and I hope she gets more of it!”
  • “April said she’s going to kick Carla’s ass, and I hope I’m around to see it go down!”

Several bystanders may come to you and tell you that your bully is gunning for you. Here’s what they may say to you.

  • “You’ve got several people who are looking for you, and when they find you, they’re going to kick your butt.”
  • “You’d better hope Sheila doesn’t run into you because she’s got a bone to pick with you.”

Make no mistake! When bystanders come and tell you these things, they’re not doing it out of concern. They’re doing it to instill fear.

Safe Targets:

8. Bystanders egg it on.

They egg it on by playing messenger. Many bystanders might run to you and bait you into saying something bad about your bullies.

If you take the bait, they will report everything you told them back to your bullies. Also, they may embellish or add to what you said, making it worse.

They may then come back to you with how your bullies responded to get you to divulge more. And they will do this several times over.

If nothing else, know this! They’re trying to get a fight started so they can watch. Then, they can go brag about it later.

9. Bystanders join in.

This is called the “Swarm Effect” or “Pile-On Effect.” When bystanders see bullies bullying you and getting away with it, they may want a piece of the action.

So, they hop on the bandwagon. When your bullies get in your face, many bystanders may join them in tormenting you.

When the bullies accuse you of something, they might tell them that they saw you do it or heard you say it. Or they may follow the bullies’ lead when they call you names and insult you. They may call you ugly names, too.

Again, these bystanders are no better than you, bullies. In fact, they’re worse. Why? Because they don’t have the guts to confront you unless your bullies do it first.

10. They hold you to double standards.

In simplest terms, you’re not supposed to do it. But it’s different when they do it.

Safe Targets:

11. Selective outrage.

Others may get pissed off at you for defending yourself.

For example, your bullies approach you in the parking lot and try to provoke you. In fact, they’ve been giving you hell for a long time now, and you’re sick of it.

When one of your bullies hits you first, that’s the last straw. You immediately sock him in the nose, then commence beating the mess out of him in front of everyone.

All of a sudden, everyone is outraged, not at the bully who started it, but at you for defending yourself. But where was their outrage when they were starting shit with you?

Also, people may retaliate if you defend yourself.

For instance, you may beat the crap out of one bully. Then they set you up to be attacked by a bigger bully.

They may lie to the bigger bully, telling them that you are trying to get with his girl. Or they may tell them that you said something bad about him.

Whatever they do, they do it because they hate you for sweeping the floor with their “hero.” Therefore, they’re going to pay you back by getting a bigger bully to attack you.

Safe Targets:

12. Authority allows it.

Authority figures like teachers and school staff will do nothing if a bully physically attacks you. They’ll ignore and keep going. Or, they may stand back and watch.

If they stand around and watch, they may enjoy seeing you get beaten. Whatever the situation, the bullies don’t face accountability. Therefore, you’re safe to bully.

13. Bullies get away with it.

The school or workplace refuses to hold the bullies accountable. Maybe they like them more than they do you. Or maybe they secretly can’t stomach the sight of you.

Therefore, they let the bullies off scot-free.

14. Everyone blames you for the abuse you suffer.

You’re the target. But if you speak out about the bullying, everyone else blames you for it. They may accuse you of provoking it. They may say things like:

“If you weren’t so annoying, Steve wouldn’t have hit you.” Or, “If you’d just keep your mouth shut, people wouldn’t want to kick your butt.”

But your behavior isn’t the issue. Theirs is. Only they won’t admit that.

Safe Targets:

15. They attach ulterior motives to any good you do.

Everyone will accuse you of doing good for your own selfish purposes. For instance, if you do a good deed, you only did it to score brownie points.

If you’re friendly, you’re sucking up. If you make a good grade, you’re trying to impress the teacher. And, if you did well on a work project, you’re trying to get on the boss’s good side.

In fact, they scrutinize anything positive.

16. They demonize you to newcomers.

Bullies will “warn” any new people about you. However, what they’re doing is part of their strategy.

They’re making a preemptive strike. They discourage the new people from associating with you before they have a chance to meet you. Therefore, they kill any chance of you making friends with them.

17. They downplay your talents or successes.

Talent improves your chances of success. And success is power. It gets you noticed. Therefore, if you have a talent, your bullies will minimize it.

And if you reach success in something, they’ll pee all over it. Or, they may attack it.

For instance, if you win a singing contest, the bullies may say that you slept with one of the judges.

What You Can Do

This may be difficult. However, the best thing to do is to leave the environment. Go somewhere you have no history. There, you’ll be among people who don’t see you as a whipping boy.

Then you can make a fresh start with a clean slate. You can put your best foot forward. And you can make friends.

In Conclusion

If you’re a safe target, your bullies have destroyed your reputation. And if your reputation has been damaged, bystanders won’t help you, and neither will authority figures.

If anything, they’ll likely side with the bullies. Then, everyone will bully you because they know they won’t get into trouble for it.

Why? Because other people get mad at you if you defend yourself. Therefore, it’s safe to bully you.

Again, the best recourse here is to find a way to leave the environment. It’s the only way to take your power back and live in peace.

Bullying and School Performance: 3 Ways Bullying Affects Grades

Want to know about bullying and school performance? Do you realize how bullying affects victims’ grades? Here are three effects you need to know about.

bullying and school performance

Photos by Dreamstime

Bullying can have a devastating effect on grades and class performance. Therefore, in this post, you will learn all about bullying and its impact on school performance, giving you another reason to help your child overcome it.

Once you learn all about these crucial details, you will be more compelled to assist your child and keep track of their grades.

This post is all about bullying and school performance, so that you not only protect your child’s mental health, but also their future.

Bullying and School Performance

Anytime you are a victim of bullying, it puts your mind on high alert. Safety takes priority over lessons.

How can you concentrate on schoolwork when you’re constantly under threat? Sadly, you can’t. No one can learn when they’re stuck in survival mode.

Why does bullying cause your grades to drop?

I experienced it firsthand. In the school where I was bullied, my grades sucked.

After I transferred to my new school, my grades skyrocketed. I made Cs and Ds at the old school. But in my new school, I made all As and one B on the first report card.

And, for the first time in six years, I made the honor roll. I can’t tell you just how proud I was! Here’s why your grades plummet when you’re being bullied.

1. YOUR brain lives in survival mode.

Survival mode shuts down the brain’s learning center. It’s almost impossible to learn anything in school.

You see? When you’re in fight-or-flight mode for an extended period, it affects certain parts of the brain. The areas responsible for memory, emotional regulation, and relationships will weaken.

Therefore, is it any wonder that victims of bullying have such poor marks and class performance?

2. You stop believing in yourself.

When others bully you, they likely tell you:

  • “You’ll never amount to anything.”
  • “You’re worthless.”
  • “You’re hopeless.”

And, they make so many other depreciating comments. Moreover, they repeat the same thing a thousand times over. After so long, you start to believe them if you aren’t careful.

This is how you develop a condition known as “Learned Helplessness.” And soon, you stop trying. That’s when your grades start to fall.

Bullying and School PERFORMANCE:

It also stunts your social development.

In life, you don’t only need academic skills; you also need social skills.

Social intelligence will always supersede book-smarts. It will get you much further than college degrees alone.

This is the reason high school dropouts become millionaires. It’s also why many college graduates are flipping burgers at McDonald’s.

Social skills are the most important assets you can have. Those who are great with people earn the highest incomes.

Social skills matter more than a good education.

For a long time, everyone thought that charisma was the one skill you couldn’t teach. You were either born with it, or you weren’t. And if you weren’t, there was nothing you could do to change it.

Thankfully, we know better today.

Bullying and School Performance:

Self-Esteem matters.

Bullies can batter your self-esteem into oblivion if you let them. As a result, you’ll withdraw from the rest of the world.

You’ll become afraid of other people. Even worse, you’ll soon start believing that you’re inferior to everyone else. And you’ll avoid social situations.

Moreover, you’ll begin to live inside your own head. You will create a fantasy world. Then, you’ll shut out the “real world” and live there.

This is not good. Why? Because you stop watching others and the world around you. As a result, you stop learning the social cues you need to nurture relationships. Thus, you won’t be able to create a good life for yourself.

Before long, you’ll become socially awkward.

Instead, you’ll look right through people rather than smile and say “hello.” Moreover, you’ll look spaced out or sullen. Even worse, you’ll feel emotionally numb.

You must protect your self-esteem as you would your life.

This is why you must protect your self-esteem. How do you do this? You do it by keeping your heart open. Never miss the opportunity to meet new people. This is how you make friends.

Therefore, create positive interactions and experiences. And do it even if you must go outside the bullying environment. Do what you must do to keep your self-esteem intact.

Bullying and School Performance:

Flowers Can’t Grow and Bloom Without Sunlight.

Therefore, you can’t flourish in misery. Bullying fills you with self-doubt. As a result, it kills your dreams. How can you believe in yourself when toxic people constantly shower you with abuse?

When all you get are insults, you become exhausted. It drains you of positivity until it depletes you of it. You begin seeing yourself through the eyes of your bullies.

Then, you give up on yourself. And, when others look at you, they see someone who’s slow and lackluster. And teachers will think you’re a lazy student.

When you suffer bullying, you’re like a flower that gets nothing but rain. Like the flower, you don’t grow and develop properly.

Again, when you’re bullied, you’re on guard 24/7. Why? Because you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop.

What happens is you lose your happiness. You lose confidence. Moreover, you lose sight of your goals. In short, you allow your bullies to turn you into someone you don’t even recognize anymore.

Bullies TAKE the joy out of life.

Instead of concentrating on your studies, you daydream about escaping. If there is no escape route available, you feel stuck. Then, you isolate yourself and become a recluse.

You retreat into your own little fantasy world because it just feels safer.

As a result, you stop observing life around you. And you stop learning the lessons it’s trying to teach you. All the while, the bullying only gets worse.

Why? Because those around you know that you’re living inside your head. And they ridicule you for it.

Those who don’t know you may mistake you for being lazy or slow. However, it only causes you to retreat further inside yourself.  And the bullying only gets worse.

This is a vicious cycle, and it is no way to live!

Bullying and School Performance:

I’ve Been There.

I understand how you feel. And I understand why. Just as flowers can’t grow without sunlight, you can’t grow without positivity.

Flowers need a good balance of rain and sunlight. Humans need a good balance of positivity and negativity. They cannot survive on just one or the other.

Too much negativity stunts your psychological growth. Then, your happiness, confidence, and dreams will die. Too much positivity, and you lose touch with the real world.

Then, you become arrogant and tyrannical! There has to be a healthy balance between the two before you can grow.

Stop giving your bullies value they don’t deserve.

Therefore, if you’re a target of bullying, never accept what bullies try to cram down your throat. I want you to realize that they don’t matter.

They may claim to know you better than you know yourself. However, nobody can know you like that. And anyone who tells you otherwise is lying through their teeth.

Understand that bullies want you to be as miserable as they are. Stay away from them. They aren’t worth your time or energy. Only keep company with those who love you and uplift you!

Remember that there’s always hope. You’re worth much more than what your bullies say you are. Never let bullies destroy what matters most.

And that’s your self-love, self-respect, confidence, and sense of pride. Those things are yours. They’re not for anyone else to have!

Practice self-care. And, if at all possible, remove yourself from the bullying environment. Go to a new place where you can grow and flourish. Go where you can make friends and be not only accepted, but celebrated!

Be your own best friend. Be your own hero. Be your own sunlight! Keep company with people who let you shine and the sun shine on you!

Bullying and School Performance:

Once you move to a healthier environment, your Grades will skyrocket!

If you’re a victim of bullying, you’ve probably thought about reporting it to the higher-ups. Most schools and workplaces have anti-bullying policies. Sadly, these policies have no teeth.

Therefore, in this post, you will learn all about the things you need for a bullying investigation so that you can gather the right evidence and prove your case.

Once you learn all these crucial details, you will be better able to take action against your bullies and win.

This post is all about the ingredients of a good bullying investigation, so you’ll have the materials you need to come out on top.

Bullying Investigation

Any time there’s a case of bullying, schools and companies usually say they’ll conduct an investigation and get back with you. However, most investigations never happen.

Most school officials and workplace managers don’t want the hassle. Therefore, they make promises they don’t keep.

Anti-Bullying policies don’t work.

Many schools and workplaces have policies against bullying. However, unless they enforce those policies, they might as well have none at all.

Here are the reasons that anti-bullying policies rarely work.

1. Most institutions only make these policies to look good.

Most institutions today have policies against bullying. However, it’s only because they’re required by the government. These guidelines are only for decoration.

In fact, these entities have had anti-bullying policies for at least a decade. Yet, cases of bullying continue to rise exponentially. Moreover, schools and workplaces continue to ignore it.

Schools sweep incidents under the rug. They also refuse to allow victims’ parents to see any surveillance footage of bullying attacks.

Schools sometimes blame the victim and take revenge against parents who fight for their child. And workplaces usually blame the victim rather than discipline the bullies.

Therefore, the only reason these policies exist is to make the institution look good.

Bullying Investigation:

2. People in authority don’t enforce them.

Remember that authority usually sides with power.

In other words, teachers and school staff may take the bully’s side because the bully has more power. Workplaces do the same thing.

They think it’s easier to blame victims. Realize that it isn’t about protecting victims. It’s about making the problem go away.

And how they make the problem go away is by silencing victims. This is wrong.

Therefore, you had better have the right evidence on hand if you expect to come out of any bullying investigation the winner. So, what types of evidence do you need? Check out the list below.

Sources of Evidence that PROVE Bullying

1. Documentation.

If you want to gather evidence that people are bullying you at school or at work, writing about it can be the first step to making a record of the attacks.

If you’re a victim of bullying, it can have long-term, devastating effects on your life. Sadly, school officials, corporate managers, parents, and even law enforcement still can’t fully comprehend the daily torment victims endure.

This is why documenting the bullying is the best thing you can do. It is your responsibility to gather evidence that your classmates or coworkers are bullying you. Why do I say this?

Because chances are that no one is coming to rescue you. Even if you report bullying to school staff or HR, they likely won’t help you. In fact, they may hurt you in the long run. Why?

Although they may be in a position to help you, it doesn’t mean they will. They will only have their own interests in mind. Therefore, you must do your own investigation.

Again, the responsibility is on you. No one else! Where victims of bullying mess up is when they rely on others to investigate bullying. This is a grave mistake!

Moreover, if you’re a teenager being bullied by a teacher at your high school, you especially need to document it! In other words, keep a log of the bullying. You do this by keeping a bullying journal.

Bullying Investigation:

Why Document Bullying?

Bullying, especially the psychological and emotional kind, is difficult to prove. People in authority who are in a position to help you may not want to help you.

Therefore, you must document everything. Here’s why.

  • Bullying is hard to prove.
  • Bullies are experts at making you look like the bad guy.
  • They use their physical appearance.
  • They weaponize your reaction to their abuse.
  • They play the victim.
  • Most Schools and Workplaces Protect Bullies.
  • It Gives You Evidence to present in court or tribunals
  • It establishes a pattern.
  • And it gives you a voice.
  • It makes your story more credible.
  • It’s good therapy for you.

The school or company may tell you that they’ll investigate the bullying. But they likely won’t. If they do an investigation, they’ll do it to keep their own asses out of hot water, not to protect you.

Therefore, you must be your own detective and build your own case. Keeping a bullying journal is one way to do this.

Do’s and DON’TS of documentation

When you document bullying in your journal, you must think about the quality of the information.

  • Don’t be Vague.
  • Stick to the facts.
  • Use the 5W Rule (what, who, when, where, why, and sometimes how).

There is a right and wrong way to document bullying. Therefore, we’ll talk about the right way first. The best way to document is to use the 5W Method.

Bullying Investigation:

How to Document Bullying:

Here’s what to include, using the 5W Rule.

  • What – what happened.
  • Who – who the bullies are. Also, include who the bystanders are.
  • When – write the date and exact time of the bullying incident.
  • Where – where it happened: school bathroom, workplace parking lot, etc.
  • Why – if you know the reason, include that.

You can also write down how.

2. recordings.

You can use a hidden body camera or a digital recorder. You can use both, if you prefer. However, here’s a word of caution. You must become familiar with your state’s laws on recordings.

Some states have a one-party consent rule, and others have a two-party consent rule. If you live in a one-party consent state, using recordings to gather evidence is illegal.  And it could easily backfire on you.

On the other hand, if you live in a two-party consent state, you are free to record. Therefore, consider wearing a hidden body camera or carrying a digital voice recorder to work.

But read the company’s policy first. Some companies have clauses that prevent recordings on their property.

Bullying Investigation:

3. Electronic Evidence: Screenshots, saved emails, and saved messages.

Take screenshots of any company email exchanges you had with your bully. However, your company likely has software that monitors the entire network. In other words, they will be watching you.

Moreover, they will have a keylogger that records every keystroke you make. So if you use the company computer to take screenshots, they’ll know.

Therefore, use your phone to photograph the email exchanges. When you do it this way, you won’t blow your cover and will keep your investigation secret.

If bullies bully you at work, there’s a good chance they’ll stalk your social media pages, get your email address, and bully you online too.

Therefore, save everything on three or more different flash drives. Then, keep each flash drive in a different place. The trick is to take precautions in case someone associated with your bullies breaks into your house to do a little snooping.

If your workplace bully sends you a mean or threatening text, save it. The more evidence you gather, the more you build your case. Therefore, the more likely you are to get justice.

4. Pictures of physical bruises.

If your bully physically attacks you, you must have evidence that supports your claim. Therefore, take pictures of any bruises, scrapes, or cuts.

Bullying Investigation:

5. Medical documents.

If a bully does bodily harm and you need medical attention, it’s best to get copies of the hospital records for court. Hospital records and medical bills provide proof of physical bullying and will compel the courts to award money for damages.

6. psychiatric records.

Like medical records, psychiatric records serve the same purpose. They prove mental stress and can get you money for that.
