If you are bullied, have your bullies ever used the invasion of privacy to find intimate details about your life? Here, we’ll discuss why bullies like to snoop into your private life and what you can do about it.
Invasion of privacy is often another tool sick and twisted bullies use to control your life. Therefore, in this post, you will learn about the invasion of privacy, why bullies use it, and how to protect yourself.
Once you learn all about these need-to-know details, you will be better able to protect yourself from these snoops.
This post is all about invasion of privacy, so you can take steps to keep certain aspects of your life out of prying eyes.
Invasion of Privacy
Bullies are notorious for trying to make your personal life their business. They seem to feel entitled to every part of you. And when you refuse to reveal certain parts of your life, they see it as an act of defiance.
For instance, if you’re bullied at school but manage to find a private world outside the school walls that makes you happy, they want to know about it.
Maybe you’re dating someone who goes to another school. Or, it could be that your family life is close to perfect. Whatever it is, your bullies seem intent on injecting themselves into it.
But understand that it isn’t because they’re curious. It’s because they want to monopolize your joy.
Here’s why bullies try to make your life outside of work or school their business.
1. To strip away the privacy boundary
Privacy is a shield. It is also a form of power. By having a life your bullies don’t know about, you have a fortress they can’t penetrate.
Here’s what bullies will do to tear down that fortress.
For instance, you’re a girl having a romantic relationship, and your bullies find out about it. So, they automatically assume that you’re having sex with your partner.
And you may or may not be. But that’s not the point. The point is that they’re poking their noses where they don’t belong. Moreover, they’re trying to take away your privacy by dragging your love life (or sex life) out into the streets.
The reason bullies do this is to make sure there’s nowhere you feel safe. Therefore, they’re trying to prove that no matter where you go or who you’re with, they own you.
Invasion of Privacy:
Slut-Shaming
Your bullies, males and females, may call you names like “whore” or “slut.” But understand the real reasons behind it.
When someone uses your sex life against you, it isn’t about morals. It’s about social control. They feel like that, socially, you skipped a grade.
Therefore, they’re charging you with the crime, “Theft of Social Status.” So, what they’re doing is attempting to re-establish dominance. In that, they’re trying to re-establish the pecking order.
Because they can’t touch your personal life, they use shame to tear you back down. In other words, “you don’t know your place.” So, they’ve got to put you back in it.
They become angry because they can no longer one-up you.
It’s reported that bullies usually get more sex than victims. And, it’s true. However, if it’s you who’s having sex, bullies become outraged—especially those who don’t have a partner.
You see? Much of bullying stems from competition for mates. And it’s the same in the animal kingdom. In high school, sex is the mark of social status. Why do you think that teenagers make fun of anyone who’s still a virgin?
Therefore, in their minds, you’re getting the upper hand. Instead of them having sex, it’s you. When they slut-shame you, they’re basically saying, “You’re not any better than us, you’re just a trifling whore!”
You may not even be having relations with your date. You may only be going out. However, teenagers have raging hormones, and most of them will sleep with someone at the drop of a hat.
Therefore, when it gets out that you’re dating, they will think that you’re having sex, too.
Invasion of Privacy:
2. To be the social police force
Ever wonder why bullies won’t stop digging into your business? There are reasons behind it, trust me.
If they can gather enough details, they can find ways to ruin your relationship. Your bullies are searching for leverage. Moreover, they want to find ways to force your partner to see you the way they do.
And if you’re a kid in school, they want ways to get you in trouble with your parents or the school system. This is why it feels so invasive. It’s the evil intent behind it.
3. For public entertainment
Bullies love to find details about your personal life, then make a joke out of it. For example, your bullies may peep into your bedroom window and take pictures of you undressing. Or, they might film you taking a shower.
And by the next day, your classmates or coworkers have a film of you naked on their phones. This never happened to me, thank goodness. I went to school long before the internet. However, it has happened to a lot of bullied girls.
And I knew a girl who was spied on, one night, by three guys from school. They peeked through her bedroom window without her knowing it. They also took pictures of her undressing with a Polaroid camera.
Many schoolmates saw the pictures, and it was a long time before she lived it down.
The goals of invading your privacy are rarely good. Bullies often do it to embarrass and humiliate you. Invasion of privacy seeks to violate the most basic boundaries of human dignity.
Bullies have ways of turning your most intimate moments into free entertainment.
Invasion of Privacy:
4. They fear losing control.
Any time bullies realize that they’re losing their grip on you, they will intensify the abuse. The bullying will reach such a fever pitch that you’ll think your whole world is being turned upside down.
It will seem as if everyone is losing their minds. This is because bullies have a sick obsession with you. Their entire ethos is to keep you down and out.
Therefore, they will try to burn down your safe house. Moreover, they will try to disrupt any peace you manage to scrounge for yourself. And they will spend more time talking about your life than living their own.
What I just described here is the surefire sign of a dying bully. A bully who has lost power over you is like a dying animal that kicks and screams to stay alive.
5. They’ve already lost control.
Once you take your power back, things usually get worse before they get better. This is because you tear up their little book of how life is supposed to be. Then you throw the pieces back at them.
You see? To bullies, you are a tool they use to feel superior. And when you find peace and happiness outside the bullying environment, you snatch that tool away from them.
Think about it. This is the same reason that totalitarian countries don’t allow their citizens to leave. By finding freedom in another country, such as America, they take away the power their old government held over them.
This is also why domestic abusers refuse to allow their partners to leave the relationship. It’s not about losing them. It’s the fear of losing control of their life. Domestic abusers can’t handle it when they can no longer call the shots.
Bullies react the same way when you find happiness outside their walls. They become obsessed. And they make desperate attempts to regain control over a victim they feel they “own.”
So they will use surveillance (an invasion of privacy) to regain that control. And they’ll watch you closely.
Invasion of Privacy:
How bullies keep tabs on you
Your bullies will stalk your social media pages. And they will keep track of the people closest to you. They’ll find out who you’re seen with, then turn every tiny detail into salacious gossip.
Also, they may doxx you to find your address, your phone number, and who your family members are. In extreme cases, they will get access to your Social Security number and bank accounts.
When it comes to prying into your personal life, they leave no stone unturned. They will make sure that no part of your life is outside their authority.
6. to claim moral high ground
It’s no secret that bullies are the most self-righteous bunch alive. And it’s the reason we have so many special-interest groups today. In fact, we ought to call them “self-interest groups” because that’s what they are.
They turn their obsessiveness into a noble cause.
Bullies are no different. They dig up information about you, hoping to find some dirt. By putting your private life on display and putting you down, they get to be hailed as heroes. All the while, they’re only doing it to be cruel.
For example, let’s say that you’re a bullied girl who’s in a romantic relationship. And your partner goes to another school. This would give them the license to spread ugly rumors about your (supposed) sexual behavior.
And they do it strictly to make you less attractive to other potential partners. That way, if you left your current partner, you’d have no other options.
Invasion of Privacy:
Here are the steps you can take to guard your privacy.
1. Don’t tell anyone anything you don’t want them to know.
Sometimes, it’s easy to share too much without realizing it. Therefore, be selective with what you reveal. Bullies are just waiting for any information they can use against you.
2. Keep the curtains and blinds drawn over your bathroom and bedroom windows.
Peeping Toms are everywhere these days. Therefore, it’s always best to keep the blinds closed over your bathroom and bedroom windows.
3. Be selective with what you share online.
The internet is forever. Therefore, be choosy with what you type. And reread your post before you publish.
4. If you have gym class, be aware of your surroundings before you shower.
Bullies have recorded victims taking a shower after gym class. Therefore, check to see who’s around before you shower.
Invasion of Privacy:
5. If someone films you during your most private moments and shares it online, press charges.
Find out where the film originated, then take legal action against the person who filmed you without your knowledge.
Invasion of privacy is illegal, and you can press criminal charges. You can also file a civil suit.
In conclusion
Bullies are notoriously nosy. There are many reasons why bullies snoop into your private business. And those reasons are rarely good.
Never share anything about your life you wouldn’t want anyone to know. When bullies get access to your personal life, they can use it to do all sorts of damage.
Privacy is power. It is your strongest armor. Protect it!
